Default Interstate buying advice.

Hey guys/girls

I'm looking at buying a car interstate, the guy seems very genuine, just don't want to get ripped off. Obviously the money will have to be in his hands before the car is taken to the depot for the transport upto Brisbane.

bought my ebv8 in nsw. flew over with cash and drove it home.

bought my ba in brissie. my folks live up there so i sent a cheque to them and they did the transaction. i flew up and drove it home. that one was a bit risky though as she wanted the money cleared in her account before handing the car over as it was her only means on transport and she wanted to be able to have the money available to buy a car same day she got rid of hers. alls well that ends well i guess.

my brother bought his au in vic. flew over with cash and drove it home.

its obviously a lot more risky if you're not going to be there in person. similar to my ba experience which turned out o.k.

the higher the price the harder it is to be able to trust someone. with cheap air fares around at the moment, just go for a fly/drive.

Yeah mate good idea. Qantas owe me a 200 flight so far, perhaps if they can transfer my flight to Jetstar it would work out much cheaper. Would be nice breaking your car in with a nice cruise!

Thanks for your advice.

Cheers Kieran

I think the majority of people are honest. My mate was looking at a car on Ebay, sounded a bit good to be true, she even said give me half the money now and the rest two weeks after delivery to ensure he was happy with it. After a bit of investaigation found out it was a huge scam with these people hacking into Ebay and falsefying Ebay confirmation documents. Mate was in Geelong and Car was in NT. He spoke to the lady about how cheap it was but she stated that she got it as a part of the divorce settlement and just wanted to be rid of it. Apperantly she must have been pretty convinceing as my mate is no dill. So be careful there has to be a lot of trust both ways just as long as both parties are honest.

Yeah without doubt Strike, i've opted to fly down with a mate, make the final payment [only laying deposit down atm] and pay the excess in full once i see the beast. Did your mate end up putting the first half of the payment down? Or did he lose that aswell?

Cheers

I bought an XT sight unseen, with 'no rust'. Never again.
