Angry very unhappy (insurance)

Just got off the phone with 5 different insurance mobs enquiring about full comp for my xf ute that is nearing completion of its 3rd rebuild now with 351c, 5sp, 9", lowered, new interior, new paint (current standard bmw colour), etc. nothing to drastic, all legal and all engineered by a certified engineer, as a daily driver. Not asking to much in agreed price of $12,000, they knock me back because they won't cover the paint ( due to being metalic), also due to the amount i want to insure it for. I can provide full receipts for all mods and purchaces but they don't want a bar of it. I'm out of ideas, and ready to toss it all in. there must be somthing out there someone out there that knows something. Can anyone help.

dead serious man, they will not insure it as a daily driver.

( That was the plan of rebuilding to drive it daily )

They said they could do it as a weekend-er but not as a daily

what if you change the engine back to a 6 cyl. and sell the 351 engine. you are running out of options . you may have to offload .

Try a Broker that deals with Lumbleys or Loyyds of London.

But seriously just because you spent dollars on mods does not actually increase the value of the car much at all.
Usually the reason paint can be an issue for an insurer is to save an argument with the customer at claim time,

I have never heard of being knocked back because its metallic, but harlequin or pearl paint is a big problem for insurers, Most insurers will stipulate in the PDS that they will not fix undamaged panels just to acheive a match, Harlequin and pearl type paints can noy be matched, it generally means the entire car needs to be resprayed to make it match.

At the end of the day keep in mind its an XF ute and not worth a whole lot on market value. Trying to insure it for $12000 is almost 4 times the market value if not more, which is why you are getting knocked back.

Another reason insurers do not go for highley modded cars is they have to be able to fix it and once again most PDS (product disclosure statements) state
Parts used will be OEM parts, makes it hard to buy OEM parts for something the OEM never made in the first place.

The insurers knocking you back are actually doing you a favor by saying up front they can not help you rather than find out when you make a claim they will not fix it the way you want.

If you really like it you might have to make it a weekender and deal with the costs of two cars. Iam insurered with shannons for my Turbocharged 351 XF (sedan). They were great to deal with (havent had to make a claim though). But i had the sae proble, no-one would insure me, being 18 at the time to didnt help.

I had reasonable quotes for my 302 XP and my 460 XF ($10k agreed) from Lumley and Shannons, but the XF isn’t listed as a daily driver.

Unique Car Insurance used to be the best and I had the 460XF insured with them for years as a daily driver. They merged with Vigil, who has now merged with Lumley. They are definitely your best bet.

I have just done completed the same thing with my Zh

One mobs wanted agreed value of 9 grand “I didn’t think to bad” though the excess would be 2 grand and there quote was for $1850 a year. :

Though SGIC was agreed value of 15 grand and was quoted $580 a year.

I could not believe this price my Gf is paying $870 a year for a kn laser though “Just” so I called back SGIC a couple of days later to check and shore enough it was right!!!! SCORE

Its well worth spending a couple of hours and do a complete ring around, call every one you can think of.

WTF??

No one would insure the XD because it was heavily modified and i wanted agreed value. Elders insured it no worries and cheaply. Hit 2 emus a few weeks back and made a claim against them, process ran smooth and easy.

Daily driver implies that it is driven EVERY Day, just insure it as recreational with Shannons.

Not really, it implies that you drive it to work & to the shops etc, ie your main form of transport.

It's strange that having it painted a BMW colour seems to make them nervous - it would be a lot easier to match than a custom colour!
