Default Am I a target for thieves?

What is it with my car this last month?
First, 3 weeks ago it gets broken in to at the footy all for about $2-$5 of loose change.
Now, this morning I find that the rear two hubcaps are missing! Why would someone want to steal 2 hubcaps and not all four? And also, why take just the rear two? Wouldn't it have been safer for the thieves to take 2 from the same side, the side that was away from the house?
Damn this is frustrating and just stupid!

At least when I rotate the tyres this weekend, I won't have to worry about two of the hubcaps. As a matter of fact, I'll be removing the front two tonight so I won't have to worry about any of them.

If anyone knows of 2 EL hubcaps for sale in the Northern suburbs of Adelaide, the could be mine! They're covered in brake dust and mud/dirt.

Thanks for that.
The strange thing is, I've had this car for 8 years now and have never had any incidents like this at all. All of a sudden, I've had 2 in a month! Just strange, infuriating and frustrating.

Actually, come to think of it, the Peugeot was parked outside last night as well. Should give that a quick once over to make sure nothing was done to that as well. I'll have to make sure that the wife isn't too lazy to put it in the garage anymore!

thieves today go at what they see easier targets now, New cars are harder to get into without smashing a window or setting alarms off instantly..
Hubcaps are always a thing, A friends VT Exec has had them stolen 4 times as little as 1 per time.. It's to easy for these thieves to simple just wonder around and buy them, No they need to steal them scum!.

I'm thinking that I should park my car on the road tonight like I did last night and set up my web cam to see if they come back for the other two.

i had a van that was stolen twice in a week, and had the back window smashed (nothing taken) once, and before I got it, it the same van was stolen 3 times within 4 months from my mate too.

I had an XF broken into with my quater window smashed for about $1 worth of shrapnell.
same car had the front window smashed and head unit stolen (I later found out who did it but the cops said they couldnt do anything about it).

another XF had a mag stolen, and wing mirror smashed.

A VK commodor was stolen never to be seen again (I didnt buy it, it was a repo-repayment from a mate)

and my AUs been stolen and written off once.

Every time Ive thought about setting up video and getting one of those internet gps trackers that operate over the mobile phone network, but never got around to it - I do think it would be a good idea though.

Yeah, but to get a GPS tracker for a car thats worth a little over $4000-$5000? Definitely not worth it.
I'm putting a car alarm in this weekend, so that'll add a bit more of a deterrent, but won't stop things like hubcaps from being pinched. I'm also going to be puttying up the hole that was created in the door when it was broken in to.

It's probably a good thing that I didn't have the tow bar in otherwise that might have disappeared as well. That's worth more than the hubcaps.

If they want it it's hard to stop them as you know you can't stay awake 24/7, my sister has a black VX supercharged V6 with a genuine set of 18" VX monaro mags & just replaced the tyres which cost her $400 each & the little bastards jacked her car up in front of her house which is in a new estate & even brought there own bricks to stick under the car, well the next morning she came out side to drive her kids to school & notice the mag wheels were gone,so when she contacted her insurance company they said that she will have to pay $450 excess & they will replace the wheels for her, this is just wrong i don't know how people can be so game to do this sort of thing in front of peoples houses & get away with it & no one heard or seen anything, she parks it in the garage now so it might be the way to go about it as you don't want these little bastards to touch you pride & joy anymore.

You think stealing hub caps is pathetic, back in 93/94 (or thereabouts), some desperate loser stole the front q'panel's indicator covers when the car was parked as my brother and old man attended the motor show.

Also, early 90s when we were attending to our second property in St Albans (father lived there with parents from 1950s) and the car was parked on the street, some loser stole our petrol cap (XF standards were not lockable).

There are desperate people everywhere. It's sad.

Unfortunately, we only have a single car garage and the Peugeot takes pride of place there considering it's age compare to the Falcon. Mine is usually parked on the driveway, but because the wife had netball last night and she takes the Peugeot, I had to leave mine on the road so she could put the Peugeot back. She had left before I had gotten home from work.
In the future, I might just move mine back up on to the driveway after she is home, but starting a car with a nice sports exhaust at 10pm at night on a nice, quiet country town street is probably not a favourite thing of my neighbours.

How much are used genuine hub caps worth anyway? Im guessing somewhere in the range of zero dollars.

I have 3 EF ones lying about. one is cracked. They would make good frisbees if they weren't so heavy :

The trick is to make your car look bogan. then thieves wont be as interested. hahaha

2 hubcabs ? you wonder why these tossers even bother, but consider yourelf lucky, my bro in law had his work ute ( AUxr8 s3) plus allof his his trady tools + other bits from the house loaded into the back where they had room. all lifted here in Adelaide on friday night.

They broke into the house grabed the extras and the keys, end of story, all gone.

That was a regular for us in St Albans back in the day. Even the caps on the tyres valves some turkeys would steal. It's a joke clearly it's done for fun only. :

Yeah, I had that. Had some chrome valve caps (came with the tyres, I didn't ask for them) pinched a few years (and cars) ago. I guess that thief now shows his car off pointing out his shiny valve caps lol. Probably stolen by some school kid who thought they looked cool.

It certainly does look like a bogan car now that I removed the front hubcaps last night. A 29 year old bogan is what I am now. Fantastic! I can feel the mullet coming on already!

Buggered if I know how they got them off the car without me hearing. They make a hell of a racket when they come off!

i saw a VE SV6/SS up on bricks around the corner from my house the otherday. havnt seen anything like that in a long time. i got a laugh out of it. it was pretty funny.

but its ridiculous. these people steal other peoples property, BUT i bet as soon as one tiny insignificant thing of theirs is knocked off, they are up in arms and moaning about the coppers doing nothing to help blah blah blah

Same EA was stolen twice, and i got it back both times after it was violated and dirty...
Dad had the gas cap stolen off his landcruiser a while back.

Hopefully someone can steal them off him and see how he likes it.. Or take his car even better punishment.

What else can you do in this situation? You can whinge and moan all you like, but it's not going to change what happened, so I might as well try and find the lighter side of things.
If you like my sense of humour, see this post from another thread. Last line in particular.

Just to add insult to injury, I've gone and locked my keys in the car this morning. The wife is out and I can't get in contact with her to get the spare key. I do have 2 spare remotes, but neither of them work.
Just sitting at home waiting for the RAA to come and save the day, again. I'll time him and see how long it takes, but he is going to have an unfair advantage over the thieves as the door trim has all been removed.
That'll teach me to try and figure out how the thieves did it.

I had a ZJ Fairlane stolen.
V8 302 auto. I was an ok car.
I found it a week later almost out of gas and out of petrol.
The only thing they stole was my sunglasses, $20 servo specials.

Before that my cortina got broken into.
The only thing they stole, yes, my $20 servo sunnies!

So now I think that the sunnies are a bad omen and dont buy any more.

Try running a current through the hub caps and the door handles. Or get a trunk monkey :P ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8avOiTUcD4Y )
