Default AU3 XR8 Sedan question...

Having just bought a very nice 2/02 AU3 XR8 sedan for the missus, the question i am asking relates to the audio setup fitted.

I thought all XR sedans would have the 6 speakers and 6 disc unit as standard, but the car we have has only a single disc unit, and 4 speakers...

Now this is not the first one ive seen like this, and i understand that the 6 disc HU's do have their problems and often get replaced with the cheaper single disc unit, can anyone shed some light? Ford didnt have anything to tell me, typical, lol.

So no prestige sound like the utes?

Strange for a 50k car at the time, where as the utes got the 6 speakers and 6 disc.

correct me if im wrong, i did have an au3 xr8 and i was told that the last of production (post 2001) were given the stacker as standard as Ford's way of going all out on the model. mine was a oct 2001 so it had the single 4 spk.

Funny thing now is i just realised that after looking at so many series 3 XR8's, i distinctly remember 3 that we were interested in had single disc units, all of them were 02 models, 2/02, 5/03, 8/02..., so as DOC said, they mustve been an option, well he should know as he wouldve bought his new and gone through all the details.

I did buy it new, and 2 mistakes i made with that car were, 1 no premium sound and 2, no leather seats

If i had done that i probably would still have it.

That was a mistake i made with my ute, no leather seats, but with the sedan, made up for it, lol, leather, sunroof, but strange to not put premo sound from new, but ill sort that out soon enough.

BTW, its a sensational car, drives heaps better than the B series ive driven and looks heaps tougher, especially with the rebel kit on it.

as far as i remember, you could get 3 audio levels.
single disc with 4 speakers
6 stacker with 6 speakers which was called prestige
6 stacker with tape and 11 speakers +sub/amp. this was premium sound. for some reason ford always count a 2 way speaker as 2 seperate speakers ??? strange. i can dig out the sale brochure tomorrow if you want the proper info.

The Series 3 lost a few features the Series 2 had to pay for the other things it gained so the stacker may have been one of those things.

Tassie Tim is correct. It was definitely an option Phil.

There are fixes for the six stackers that Ford don't tell you about, I know XR Strider never had any issues with the six stacker in his previous ride.

Unless you stated otherwise you had the standard 100w 4 speaker single CD HU.
Options were prestige sound with just the tweeters and 6 stacker and then the Premium Sound which had the amp and sub.

AUIII XR8's with Premium Sound optioned will have that listed in the Tickford options plaque in the engine bay near the ABS module.

Single cd player came in XR8 from Series 2 with the 220kw motor. When they only had the 200kw motor it came with the 6 stacker.
