Our dealer had the car for the day. The Ford engineers came out and went right over it. Apparently sometimes they find a faulty sensor that can cause problems and other times they find no reason for the pinging. However, they found no faults at all and said that the car is within specifications and that they cannot do anything else. They did suggest that we run it in 95RON which we already do. As far as they are concerned, that is it. It cannot be fixed! The pinging isn't that bad but it's a joke to think that even the Ford engineers can't fix it. Although in all fairness, at least they tried.

well as one of the other threads started by BlackLS sujusts maybee you should take it to them and tell em to either retard or advance the timing to fix it?
not sure... the thread should just be a couple down!

Have you tried 98 & 100RON PULPs ? maybe those would fix the problem.

It does, and I do this now(because of the advanced igntiton). But for a car that states its ok to run on 91 octane it shouldn't even be an issue.

You might find the 98 octane will give better economy after a few tank fulls and help cover the costs. Better pay a few cents extra for fuel than be up for an engine rebuild!!!
All our cars run on BP Ultimate even my crappy old Feroza because it's prone to detonating.

My car only pings up-hill when I press on the accelerator quite a bit, the engine pings twice and then down-gears to 3rd and doesn't ping until there is another up-hill.
I might be retarding the timing soon, fuel economy doesn't concern me much. |

I think outside of India we are the only country still using a 91 RON.... am I right?
We pay world parity prices at the pump and the local petro industries make massive profits yet they still refuse to update refineries to make the higher RON fuels. govts are full of soft cocks on this issue. Perhaps Focus would be happier with 98 - 100 RON which is freely available most other places. |

They use a different measure. Their 87 Octane is equiv to our 91RON Octane.

Retard the timing a 1 or 2 two degrees at a time, run on a higher octane fuel, done.

Its called supply and demand. Demand for 98Ron is/has grown faster than supply so the price goes up. Happens everywhere

When I was last in LA I asked what ppl there use and my buddies tell me that only little old ladies use their 87 fuel and its not at all popular with modern cars and not always available anymore. they all seemed to use the 93 I think they said which is similar to our 98 and by far the most popular. They even had another higher rating than that which is similar to 100 RON. We are soooo left behind.
The price difference is measured in pennies too which is opposite to here. Bring on E85 ASAP.... |
