How the hell do I get rid of that 1st pic ??????????? It is a pic of my now ex boyfriend & his daughter & as they no longer are in my life I dont need to ee them everytime I start my computer up :( Any ideas ????? |

Do you remember what the original pics file name was? For example, was it something like digipic005.jpg?
If not, we could always find it, but it's much easier and faster if you remember what it was called.

What exactly happens? You get the first picture as you sign in then it flicks to the last selected one? or it just changes back to the old one ever time you login/restart what ever and stays there until you change it again?

You need to log in as the deafult or admin user, or if it is an older system with say Win98 at the login prompt just click on cancel and that should bring you to the desktop that has the pic you want to change, remove it or change it.

the pic that you want to get rid of, is it the pic behind the log-in box?
or does it flash up for a second then another pic comes up instead? orrr... both? also, what version of windows? |

I'm guessing it comes up during the start-up procedure, then reverts to the newer desktop once Windows has started.
Maybe the offending pic is still on your C drive, not sure if windows renames it as a default startup wallpaper. It's probably got a mention in one of the startup routines from when you last installed windows. I'm guessing it's Win98. You might have to do a search on all jpg files, that were accessed most recently? |

MN, first of all, try setting your background to "none", hit apply, then put on your pic..
sometimes when you put a BMP file as a background then change to a JPG the jpg just appears in front of the bmp.. (something to do with 'active desktops behaviour and that a jpg is another layer over the normaly background) if that doesnt work, then its something else and your best bet is to change it in regedit.. i forget the location where that setting is stored tho. |

If it is Win98 and as you said, you have seperate profiles, then when the login window is displayed DO NOT log in with one of the profiles, just click on cancel and you will be loged in with the default/root/system(not sure whats its actually called) profile and I am guesing it is here that the background image is setup. once loged in with this profile just set your desktop image as none.
