Love the Olympics. I love watching most sports but the Olympic Swimming, track & field, weighlifting and basketball are my fav's. Its un Australian not to watch and support the Aussies hehe. Remember Cathy Freeman in Sydney "special" and Bruce's call great stuff. Or the men's 4 x 100 in Syndney when America where hot favorites and Canada won. Bruce said Canada didnt just win "they spanked there butts".

They sacrifice etc. etc. all for the almighty dollar.
The ONLY reason they work "so, so hard" and make "so many sacrifices" is because the money is there to earn if you reach the top.

There are people who live everyday lives, possibly in your neighbourhood who have made far greater sacrifices FOR WORSE and will never receive any recognition or sympathy from anybody.

The issue I have with sportspeople is we idolise them and see them as heroes...but it's just a well-paid job that also brings a degree of celebrity-status.

If you want people who make sacrifices (HEROES if you will), find the people who quit their jobs, go overseas, live among poverty and help people living in these areas in whatever way they can, for no reward whatsoever.

IM just glad we dont have to put up with another Jana Pittman/Rawlinson saga again.

Seriously and WTF is going on with the 2 swimmers that were seeing each other and then broke up and then discussing how it may affect their olympic preparations. Why the F... would I care about their sexlife outside of the olympics let alone their olympic preparation...

Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot - I'll be off to the pub a little bit more in the next 2 weeks, I'll be going for Gold, A Gold coloured fluid thats on tap. :

Thank god for Foxtel!!

Apprantley Animation Domination are going from when the olympics start to when they finish on Fox 8. Each day is back-to-back eps. of The Simpsons, Futurama, Family Guy, King Of The Hill & American Dad. (Apart from the normal time slot for the WWE)

You can also vote for your favourite show [Simpsons FTW!]

Definately rather be watching that then someone doing laps of a pool.

im not sick of it. i love the olympics being on. it's once in 4 year event. and it means alot to the participants. not like a typical footy game where honestly, the players couldnt give stuff all.. its just another week another pay cheque.

this is the culmination(spelling?) of years of hard work and training and knowing they only have 1 shot at gold.

Thank christ for Foxtel. The only good thing about to come from the Olympics is the 12th Man usually releases a Bruce McAvaney Single, as B2TF alluded to before.

I don't think I can be bothered to watch any of this year's effort. China should never have won the Olympics, but I digress.

xr8chick - correct. Starts Friday night.

Never really have liked them and most likely never will. Unless they start throwing people into arenas with lions and that sort of deal, it seems pretty boring to me.

the 1 in 4 years thing is only technically right.
We get the Olympics once every 4 yrs, then the Commonwealth Games every 4 yrs too which is done inbetween years of the Olympics and then theres the Winter Games too.
So we dont just get 1 dose of 2 weeks every 4 years, we get it every 2 years, just in diffrent guise. Not sure how often the Winter Games are on.
If I was to watch any of it, the winter stuff is the most entertaining.

As for those watching just for the womens gymnastics, thats a bit of a worry as most of those girls are a jail sentence waiting to happen.

These people may sacrifice a lot for their sport etc, but some become famous, some get huge monetary and equipment endorsments from businesses and others become professional athletes. They do what they do primarily for their own benafits, and the hard training etc is the price they pay for that.

I will go buy a few DVD box sets for the nights I am not working or not out and enjoy those instead.

Too easy for me, if you dont like it, just switch it off....Done!!
