Default Help! Problem with my AU! Has the shakes

Hi all,
Just bought an AU series 1 forte wagon 155kms. Here's my problem...
On driving the car from startup it shakes like all hell. only stops when the car is is pushed (Beyond 3,000rpm). Just crusing along at 2000rpms be it on the freeway or on suburban roads it shakes unless you back of the accelerator completly or give it a fair bit.
It also seems to have reduced power.
Im thinking that maybe it needs a new Calytic Converter. But if anyone has any ideas or knows the problem please help me!!!
Thanks alot.
Jonny.

first thing to do would be to check/replace the plugs and leads, if this doesn't fix it then maybe try a coil pack as well

"Help! Problem with my AU! Has the shakes"

Your poor car ! , you haven't been leaving it out in the rain have you ? , it's probably got a flu or a cold coming on ... hehehehe .... jokin , obviously , sorry but i couldn't help myself having a crack at that one .

back to the real topic .. as you mentioned , you could be on track with it being the Calytic Converter. Funny all this mention of oxygen/o2 sensors latelly, but a rooted oxygen sensor could cause the problems you are getting too, and if bad enough can damage the calytic converter too.

But ... as 'bodes-sh' mentioned , i'de be checking leads and plugs first etc .
Also don't forget to check the little things like the fuel filter / fuel pump / make sure all the injectors are working etc etc .

hmmm im begining to think the worst and thinking that maybe this car is a real dud... Im thinking maybe one of the cyclinders has gone and the car is only running on 5.
Any ideas on how much this costs to fix? do i need a whole new motor?

the first thing to do is get hold a compression tester, that'll tell you if its dropped a ring, worn valves, etc...if thats the case its time to strip it down and see if its rebuildable, if not then id get a second hand motor, rebuild it then stick that in, although unless its in really bad condition a rebuild should be possible
