I am happy to see the Fuel price dropping still & some predictions of maybe even $1.00 a litre by Christmas which is a long way from the $2.00 a litre many of us were expecting however what about us folk in the country as while City prices are at $1.10 or so a litre we are paying $1.36 & we are not actually in the bush as Port Macquarie is a large Coastal Town only 400 k's north of Sydney.
It comes down to them saying is freight Bah Humbug as freight should only add approx 3 or 4 cents a litre to a place like this as I could understand if we lived in the Alice however we do not. I will paste a statement made by the NRMA below: But the NRMA said that rural motorists were missing out as the price of petrol continued to fall in major cities across the country. "Country motorists are being deliberately ripped off," NRMA motoring and services director Graham Blight said in a statement. Mr Blight said oil companies were selling petrol in rural Australia 10 to 20 cents above the metropolitan price. "Oil companies will use the excuse that the discrepancies between city and country petrol prices are due to freight - freight prices should only increase fuel by three cents a litre," Mr Blight said. So come on Fuel companies or maybe even local servos & give us a fair go : |

I agree with you, freight charges are 'humbug'.
Transport costs are tax deductable for the fuel companies, so even with some extra costs in transport, how much difference should the price be between city & country; 0.05c/L? Maybe it's a case of clearing the old stock first, since they would have paid top dollar for that lot to start with. Hopefully the price reductions will follow to country very soon. I'm moving this to the Pub, as more people should have a chance to comment on this one.

$1.10 Round my area and lovin it, I now laugh at my mates who decided to sell their V8's because fuel was getting expensive around the $1.50 mark. Lets hope it lasts.

Petrol has been hovering up and down from 1.16 - 1.32 for a few weeks now, with the emphasis closer to the low side. :

Its still around $1.25 here in Melbourne, and over $1.30 for 98 Octane (Which I always use).
Would be good to see it go down. I seriously was beginning to go into panic mode with the talk of $2.00/L by chrissy. |

The drop is temporary till the government go back to their greedy ways ... it's just to suck people into a false sense of security ... then sting them with $1.50 prices around Christmas time ... just when it hurts the most financially.

The gist of the story is while Coles and Woolies control the market the price wont drop below 1.00 per ltr. |
