Default Spanish Lottery Scam...

I had a call from my mother(78 year old) last night telling me she had won $368,000(informed by mail) in a spanish lottery. She had rung a person in spain(mobile phone) to confirm. She was told she had to remit a certain amount of money to cover costs/taxes etc before money could be paid into her account..I tried to convince her that this was a load of bull. But to no avail. She was going to get her winnings no matter what I said..I did get the mobile phone no from her and rang and spoke to an english speaking bloke(from EL gordo lotteries) who informed me it was all legit etc, I politely asked to speak to his boss but was told nobody else spoke english.I hung up..This scam is number 1 on the list of Australian Dept of Foreign Affairs and Trade..What a bunch of utterly low bastards these mongrels are...Beware..

well first up: how can you win a lottery without entering it?
second: a corporation of such would use a LANDLINE not a MOBILE PHONE to do business.
third: all winnings in other countries that require you to pay any taxes on those winnings will be DEDUCTED from said winnings BEFORE you get given the money (except the U.S where you are expected to declare the winnings and pay the tax yourself).

You'd think after watching ACA and TT and other shows like that, you'd have some idea that if you've won something in a lottery that you didn't enter, in another country, that it would be a load of s***.

God...
