it will be expensive. rollin has a VZ HSV T56 for sale. its done 000100 km's. Yes, 100k's.

It would be easier to fit the cable clutch.

send a PM to WBT56

why not go a mel wood speical, i know of a certain car, with a t56 and a cable clutch.

The cross member at the rear is the same on this one, you will have to change the tailshaft and input shafts, there is a whole lot of different wiring.

XR8chic where are you? she can answers these as she has one

yes, XR8Chic does have a Mal Wood T56. If i was getting a T56 i would go through Mal Wood...

I drove their AU ute on friday with the 6 speed in. It was so nice.

XR8chic's conversion wont be the same as a I6 one IMHO, obviously the bell housings are different and the input shafts may be...

OED666 - you didn't happen to ask be what needed to be changed from VZ V8-EB I6 did you? I should buy a spogot bearing and put it in that ED motor I have for sale, then see if the input shaft is even close to fitting....I have the XR6T bellhousing already....

I've put a T56 in the LTD.
The kit came from Mal Wood and I had to use a mustang belhousing.
They are very easy to fit, I also use clutch cable.

Do you know which input shaft to use? Or how many different ones there are? Surely they would be like the T5 - longer input shafts for V8 models as they are shorter and dont come back as far in the engine bay as the I6 does? I may just have to bite the bullet and trial fit the thing to the motor I have in the garage :S

The BA bellhousing I have fits both the T56 and the ED motor I have, but I havent tried to fit the bellhousing with the box attached yet...the shaft sticks out past the end of the housing a few mm, which initally made me think it was going to be Big Dramas to pull the box apart and swap input shafts, but I picked up a spare T5 the other day and noticed the input shaft on that sticks out past the bellhousing as well...It would be too good to be true to have it all just fit though.

I will have to measure spigot bearing inner and outer diameters at some stage and see if i can get a bearing for it. After that, I will give Direct clutches a ring and see if they can make me a clutch to suit the box/flywheel combo (or i could just steal OED666s flywheel and get an aftermarket XR6T clutch...)

I will go hydraulic clutch as well I reckon, the cable one has given me so much trouble over the years, I hate it with a passion...and I wont have to mod the bellhousing :P

OED666 - The box is up for sale, but since nobody is interested in it I am still investigating the option of putting it in the car...(for those interested, I just want the 2k I originally paid for the box, and if you want a brand new XR6T bell housing to match thats another $350 - ford RRP for that item is over $450)

Just out of curiousity, what is your RPM at cruizing speed? say 110km/h.
I guessing it couldn't pull skin off custard in 6th gear?

with a bit of modification... its not a straight fit in the tunnel, and the shifter position is different i think...

Yes and No...

I did some mmeasuring up tonight, and as I suspected, it ain't going to be easy.

I put the XR6T bellhousing on the T56 and compared that to the T5 I have as well. Measurements are as follows:

I6 T5 V8 T56

Input shaft Spigot bearing diameter: 16.4mm 14.9mm
Length input shaft protrudes from BH 10mm 32.2mm
Depth of Spigot bearing contact surface 27mm 29mm

I did also measure the Spigot bearing Outer Diameter in the back of the crankshaft but I lost the bit of paper I wrote it on :S I think it was 34.60mm or 36.40mm

So to make the box fit, the next step is to get a 6T input shaft (after checking the respective first gear ratios of the XR6T box and the HSV box to ensure they are the same, if they aren't the matching gear for the countershaft will have to be bought as well.

The next known problem after that is making the shifter sit in the right spot in the EB interior...I haven't measured the lengths of the boxes from front of bellhousing to shifter location yet, I will have to find a tape measure.

the distance from the mounting face on the T5 bell housing is 70cm +/- 4mm, and the measurement for the same distance on the T56 is 78cm (from memory, I did write it down but I have lost the bit of paper :S) but 70cm scores a bullseye on the position of the shifter if it was in the normal place - holden have a remote shifter mechanism which places the lever about 8cm further back than the ford one, so if i get an XR6T shifter mechanism it should bolt straight on and be beautiful.

I will probably price a shifter from ford and also a short shift, and see what works out best.

Im going to try register on ls1.com.au and sell the box though, I really need to be paid some money at the moment, rather than spend it!

(i found some 17x9s that look cool and should fit my car )

hmmm... DAMMIT... it sounds like it'll fit with not too much playing around, and I don't have the money to buy it at the moment...
