Hi Guys,
Looking to put a roof rack on the Mondeo (nothing massive - just for a fishing kayak) What type of roof rack do the Mondeos take? seems different to what I'm used to... Cheers, Richard |

Wagon or hatchback and if wagon, do you have solid or raised roof rails?
I went with Rhino Rack crossbars for my wagon to combine with a roof pod, as well as provide a solid base to carry anything else I might need to carry that wasn't fitting in the boot. It was pricy (about $500 + $2500) but has been essential on multiple family trips with little ones and moving furniture bits. |

We have very similar. Got the Ford rails on the MC, and transferred my Thule pod onto it. I use ratchet straps to lift it into the ceiling space when not in use.

That's solid (or flush) rails, and all it means is (usually) the 'feet' of the crossbars will be different - from a sort of claw for the raised rails, to a more buttress kind of shape to fit your solid rails.
Most/all of the major aftermarket brands will have kits for both styles, in many cases they make crossbars in a few different widths and then swap out the mounts to fit onto different vehicles, just pick the brand you like. Unfortunately, looking at the soft racks that were posted, they won't work for your Mondeo because you have the flush roof rails which will block the strap (see FAQ on the page). |

I've got some Thule aerobars on my MC wagon with solid rails. I already had the bars from a previous car so just bought new feet to suit.
No real complaints, but note they are pretty expensive new (I bought 2nd hand) and IIRC the Thule do sit up a bit higher than Rhino Rack equivalents. Lower just looks better IMO. The solid roof rails mean you must get the feet specific to your vehicle so they match the rail profile, and that kind of limits your options to the bigger brands (Thule, Rhino, etc). With raised rails you can get more generic / cheaper bars as they just clamp around the whole rail. |
