Guess it had to happen: first day of rain since I arrived in fnq last week. Still, no complaining from me as its still shorts and tshirt weather. Well, it is for me. I notice the locals are all wearing long pants and jumpers

Seriously windy in Sydney and south today. Saw a caravan (behind a dual cab) get the wobbles badly on the M1. Plenty of good sized sticks on the road, and a small casuarina fallen on Centenary Drive.

We had a gust that measured at 95km/h at about 1:30 this morning. Strong winds always seem much worse at night as the whole house rattles and the closed windows whistle.

And a gust this morning of 80km/h. Further cold fronts are expected over the weekend, with strong north westerlies/westerlies not expected to abate until next Tuesday.
I hate the wind

Can always tell the Royal Melb Show is around the corner by the N/West wind blowing a gale…
As a kid I remember the old man saying the “show wind has arrived”… Every year at beginning of Sept. Also remember as a teenager having a job at show time at the showgrounds working nightshift sweeping the showgrounds streets… The idea was sweep off footpaths and gutters out on the road for the street sweeper to pick up.. Howling wind meant it was nightmare task bordering on pointless…

Most have probs heard the term 'Blowvember' before. Well, when I was learning to fly, it wasn't accurate for here. We used 'blowtober' instead. So, yes CW, strong winds are expected this time of the year.
Speaking of which, we had another gust of 82km/h last night, just after midnight. Wind is supposed to get stronger again today, peaking tonight. Not looking forward to that. Have I mentioned I hate the wind?

Another wild night, with winds of no less than 40km/h for the last 24 hours and a gust of 100km/h recorded earlier this morning.
Almost scored myself a new trampoline. Lucky the neighbours gate didn't blow round in the wind when it failed. Could have caused some serious damage!

Went out the back for my morning ritual & was hit with a flash-back.....summer 1982 stepping out of my donga in the Moomba gas Fields. What a nasty morning, for this neck of the woods.

Now 33c 1.00pm in Melbourne, still overcast, unless the sun breaks through, I doubt we will reach the forecast of 41c
PS, getting the few occasional spits of rain out in the west of Melbourne since this morning. |

We got to 37 here today. Still 30.
Can't understand how much people are complaining about it being hot. In the four years I've lived in this house, I've never used the refrigerative cooling. I do use the fan mode to move the air around, tho. Inside got to 28. That's a pretty comfortable temp for me. But I do get that people feel heat and cold differently.

Must be the first time ever it was stinking hot in Melbourne for one day and they didn't declare the whole state a total fire ban day. Geeze what's going on.
