Default Urgent Help - South Melbourne

Hi all, after a huge mercy call. I have a mate that is stuck in south Melbourne with a leaking rear right brake hose on his BA Wagon. He is from Wodonga, so a fair way from home, and has to be back in Wodonga tomorrow.

Would anyone be in the south Melbourne area, and possibly have a flexible brake line they are selling?

Thanks.

This is a tough one, saturday arvo nothing is really open. the only hope would be to do a search for gumtree around the area your mate is stuck and look for wrecking ba wagons.

Or if you're lucky try searching for wreckers around that area and give them a call you maybe lucky to get access after hours for emergencies...

Good luck!

Gumtree is a good idea, I'll see what is around. No luck with finding the part available Repco or supercheap.

Was trying to avoid the vise grips, but was an option.
However, he managed to find a screw on cap from a refrigerator system (long story) to isolate that line and is now back on the road.

Thanks for the help.

I know the jobs done now but if he had working brakes that only leaked on application. He could have topped up the reservoir and headed over the Bolte Bridge from South Melbourne and potential driven back to Wodonga on the freeway and only have to use the brakes sparingly.

I'm not saying for anyone to drive an unsafe car but if you weight up being stranded and whether you can safely nurse a car home or to a repair shop you can make your own decision.

Many years ago I had to come back from near Wangaratta on a Sunday night with a broken clutch cable. We had to start the car in 1st gear and just crunched the other gears until I was in 4th and I was able to cruise on the freeway for 2hrs until we got to the outskirts of Melbourne before we parked it at a servo and friend meet us to take us home. Went back the next day with new cable and got it going again.
