When getting a car fixed through an insurance company is it the right of the person paying the bill to get an independent quote before any work is done.
(The person paying does not have insurance). Or does anyone know of a web site I can go to. : Thankyou Belinda |

Not really.... usually the owner of the damaged property obtains 2 or 3 quotes and then the person paying or the insurance company decides which one is most reasonable.

welcome to the forum belinda and i wouldnt think so, if you have got 2 or 3 quotes yourself why would they need to get there own. Have you asked your insurance company can they handle this for you eg: get your car fixed and the insurance company to chase the other party for the money.

I am not the one with the problem. I have insurance. It is the poor old lady next door. She ran up the back of someone. She seems to think that if you are not happy with the quote the insurance agency sends you you can get your own independent quote, they have only sent one.
I will have to show my husbane this forum. He loves his fords. :hihi: Last edited by Belinda; 21-03-2006 at 10:06 AM. |

I thought the at fault party did have the right to get a quote on the repairs for the person they hit from their choice of repairer, provided it's reasonably accessable for the person they hit.
Most people have insurance and don't care about the bill as the insurance company picks it up, so they usually wouldn't do this.

No the one without the insurance has no say in where the quotes are obtained. I was in this very situation earlier this year. Bloke didn't giveway and T-boned my car. He really made my day when he said a) I have no insurance and b) it's not that much damage.
The reality was a) he had insurance and b) he had to pay $2500 in a repair bill and whatever administration costs because he said he doesn't have insurance. I would have loved to have heard his conversations with my insurer. [edit]It's also a conflict of interest to repair the car at the person payings repairer. They maybe getting a deal or kick back.
