Default car

Hi

Was looking something up on wikihow and came across this and wondered what it means it's when you should sell and go newer

Consider professional factors. Both your personal situation and plain old math should dictate whether you replace your car with a new one.
Image is one thing, but if your profession requires you to maintain a certain level of professionalism, a new car might matter.
For example, if you’re a salesman, and you think pulling up in a new car can influence your sales, that makes a difference.
Consider whether, professionally, you have time to deal with back-and-forth trips to repair shops constantly. Some people have high-demand jobs or childcare duties that make this more than a simple inconvenience.

I thought this thread was as bad as it could get....

Are you doing a "degree" in market research or something? Why don't you actually interview people if you have all these questions?

Everyone's situation is different. 50 people will give you 50 different answers. That's why we have so much choice in the new and used car market.

Yeah there isn't a one size fits all approach here. You have to factor in fuel economy, reliability, depreciation, how much driving you do, (purchase vs lease). Too many variables. If I were to get a car for work, and it was just about reliable transportation with a low cost of ownership, I'd probably do a low mileage lease on a Camry, Corolla, Prius, or Optima (or something like that).

Always worth considering - especially if you rely on 'professional appearance' in you work.
however if you are a Tradie, chevypowers idea is fine.

While the basic Ford Six was code named Barra, the Turbo version clearly deserved its very own moniker – again enter Gordon Barfield.
We asked him if the engine had actually been called “Seagull” and how that came about.
“Actually it was just call “Gull”, because I named it that. Because we knew it was going to poo on everything”.

If some of us didn't buy new cars there wouldn't be any secondhand ones available.

True.

You also get caught in a position where (in a short few years) you have to decide whether to sell/trade while it's worth something or just run it into the ground.

I watched seven news last night and they were on about importing second hand vehicles a lot cheaper than what they sell for here. https://au.news.yahoo.com/video/watc...ped-off/#page1

Channel 7 is a wealth of misinformation ... In reality Nisan Elgrand is a grey import and has nothing to do with price of Caravelle or Vito. It is like saying I bought a grey import Skyline and saved 30k over Mustang .
