I think rex gorrell certainly did eat them up
they were opposite FORD factory somewhere around where Villa Decor/Subway is and their service department was in pakington street which is now an antique store, opposite the paint place. |

OMIGOD - I bought my first new car from Heaths Motors near the city. They got taken over by Dawsons from whom I also bough a new car (when they were in Pakington St).
I got my new GT in Melb, but while down Geelong a month ago, had a problem. Gorrell's fixed it, found another problem, fixed that while I waited. Was VERY pleased with their service. Gorrell Sales? When looking for quotes, (very) young salesman offered me a car the price of which will be the lowest I could get. "Can you send me a quote?". "I can only do that if you sign for the car". WHAT????? Gave that dealer a miss. |

Avoid Gorells like the plague. The day Colin Kerr was bought out by Rex was a sad day for customer service, as Gorells now have the whole town to themselves, and their closest competitor is 45 minutes away. I don't know how a town as big as Geelong with a Ford factory here can have 2 Holden dealerships but only one Ford dealership. I and many other workmates of mine have had nothing but trouble trying to get things fixed under warranty, as they will always try to fob you off with the old "the're all like that".

A couple of fast food chains are in its place now.
I havn't found Gorrells that bad. They've replaced 2 of my diffs with no dramas, although my handbrake issue couldn't be fixed(well the fixed the woosh woosh noise but I have a poor excuse for a handbrake now). Any problems I have, I talk to the head mechanic about now. I don't go through my service adviser. |

Before Colin Kerr Ford, it was Cam Dawson Ford. I bought my EF XR6 new from Colin Kerr Ford in 1994 / 95.

Colin KERR lives down the road from my mother in Lara. Very nice bloke and top family. His two sons used to play football for Geelong. He still drives Fords. He sold his dealership to Gorrells, not sure what year, was about 98 I think.

From My personal experiences, and through knowing a lot of people from who work for Gorrells at all of their different dealerships i wouldnt buy from them. I was glad i made the trip to Westpoint Ford in werribee. Killed gorrells price straight away without even knowing i'd been anywhere else. If you buy new off Westpoint and live in geelong or surrounding area they will drive down and pick your car up when its due for a service and leave you with a courtesy car for the day if it's more convenient.
I'm Good mates with the son of the Peck side of "Peck & Stokes Motors" (BMW, Land Rover, Mini, Volvo, Peugeot, Jaguar) in geelong which was just bought out last year by Rex. BMW dont want anything to do with him, and would not sign him on as the geelong dealer. Had to be signed over in his sons name, and the name must remain Peck & Stokes because BMW don't want his name on any of their cars! Since the sale, 61 Staff have jumped ship and customer service has gone down the drain. The man must be doing something right though because in Geelong he owns the Ford, BMW, Land Rover, Mini, Volvo, Peugeot, Jaguar, Mitsubishi, Audi, Renault, Nissan, Volkswagen and Honda dealerships! |

Guess it depends on what you buy. There is no way in hell i'd let them come and pick up a brand new Typhoon or even any car i owned but i thought it was a good attempt at extending on the standard customer service and going the extra mile to satisfy the needs of some people. I've got a mate with an XT sedan that gets picked up for service. its just a company car so he doesnt care who drives it or what they do in it cause is not his. Much more convenient for him than taking it into the dealer himself and worrying about getting lifts back to work and no car for the day. And they dont send apprentices. They have full time drivers to do this. Thats why its there as an option, it suits and works for some people, for me it wouldnt. Another spin on this is when you drop your car off at the local dealer do you really know what they are doing with it anyway? Got a mate who had a brand new F-250 7.3L TD. his wife rang him up and asked him why he was out north geelong and not working? He was working in Grovedale. His ute has his business sticker on the back window and custom plates so it wasn't a mistake. Gorrells had decided after they serviced it to do some running around Geelong using it for parts deliveries! Now you could imagine he was a little ИИИИed! Another day we were on the way back into Geelong in a C5 corvette. Raced a guy driving a VY Maloo Ute down the highway past Ford and all the way back through geelong most of it at speeds well well well over the limit and with lots of wheel spin basically driving it like he stole it, only to follow it into the driveway of Smith Holden and an early 20s dealer mechanic get out in his red overalls! So who can you trust with your pride and joy these days? |
