Default advice with selling a car

i have my old VH commodore forsale
problem is I have 2 guys wanting to look at it this thursday
1 if from QLD and is flying down to look and the other is coming up from goulburn (i'm in wollongong)
I have already taken it to a mechanic for the QLD guy (his brother inlaw) and the he said he was very impressed, so as long as he is happy he should buy it (why else would you come all this way) and the other guy has called me numerous times and his son is really excited about the car but can't get here till thursday.

do i just sell it to the first person who turns up? what if it sells and the other guy is on his way to look?

what is the right thing to do?

In my opinion, if the QLD guy has already organised an inspection, then once he confirms flights with you, you should wait for him. Having said that, he should organise it straight away. If he delays, then tell him you are going to keep it on the open market 'first in best dressed' unless he pulls his finger out and gets down to you. If he is serious he will do it ASAP anyway.

oh and to make it worse the QLD guy saw my ad for $3900 and the Goulburn guy saw an ad for $4500, so do i just tell the QLD guy the price is firm at $3900 he agrees i will hold it for him?

Up to you what you do with price negotiations. But if he saw it for $3900 and hasn't yet negotiated, by all means tell him you are firm. On price that is Ha Ha.

Yes, by all means get a deposit from the QLD guy, even refundable if he inspects and doesn't buy, because paying it regardless still shows he is genuinely interested.

Gotta hate the games time wasters play. Say you're firm on the price, not your fault he wants a VH with A/C. If yours is in good condition, you'll get the money you're asking... don't see many good VHs around any more.

Good stuff! The last good car I sold I priced it a little higher than average, but it was better than average, and I made it clear I was confident it was priced accordingly and I was not negotiable - they offered a bit less anyway and I stuck to my guns and got every dollar I wanted (in fact a little more than I would have taken had they started to walk away!). Shows you should always stick to your guns!
