We keep paying more for rego every year and instead of receiving better roads and proper analysis for making the roads safer, the easiest decision is to drop the speed limit. How much will such a move increase speed camera revenue by?

This was decided by Vicroads some time ago, along with the removal of the buffer zones say when approaching and leaving country towns along highways.
Good on Manningham council taking on Vicroads. Its absolute rubbish that removing the 70 and 90 speeds makes speed compliance easier. The only thing it would achieve is that it would make more revenue by further frustrating motorists. |

The removal of the buffer zones is stupid and will eventually result in serious or fatal crashes.
Every now and then i think im a klm or two back from where i am, and when the damn 60 signs pop up from behind the untrimmed roadside brush, my b-doubles breaks cop a flogging. Convinently, there are often hiway patrol cars at hand in the event of a ticketable offence |

when NSW liberal came to power they ran on a promise to reduce the variability of speed limits on certain troubled roads.
What they did was change the 100Km zones to 90KMh getting rid of the buffer at each end,and changing the 60Km to 50KM in built up areas. they cancelled the 70 zone. To confuse people[revenue] they added an 80 zone after a 90Km black spot-that now gong to be construction zone with operation of a planned mine. http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roadsafety...tsway_1908.pdf

Anything "we the people" can do.... open to suggestions
Clearly drivers are getting worst and not better, why don't they educate or stop importing ding dongs without road laws from where they once resided. I haven’t had a fine for years or accident ever (knock on wood) and also drive on the speed limits every day, so what are we missing now? The roads don’t flow because of imbecilic clowns and changing speed zones or mobiles. I may now buy shares in a brake company...

I actually don't mind going from 100 down to 60, as long as they give a bit more warning with a sign saying 60 kph zone ahead, as it is, some sections of road just totally **** me off, some area's of Melbourne......... 3 bloody different speed limits in about a kilometre of road for gods sake, basically the whole time you are speeding up slowing down , readjusting speed, wasting fuel, wasting brakes, not watching the road as you should, but instead watching the speedo,
western ring road used to be notorious for multiple speed changes, probably caused 9 out of ten accidents, if they can make traffic flow more as a constant instead of speeding up and slowing down i'm for it, but you do have to be a bit suspicious of their motives, time will tell i guess. |

Try driving between Morooduc and Mornington west on Tyabb rd during school times the changes to the speed limit will drive you mental.
Didn't Vic Roads drop the 75 k limit because that was too confusing as well , this ******** of slowing all traffic down has got to stop , sure cars accelerate faster than they did 20 years ago ,but they can also stop and turn far better too , yet the limits imposed were safe in old cars so why in our modern cars is it suddenly too dangerous to travel at 70 and 90 Klms . I am fed up with the mindless propaganda machine TAC and the state Gov that constantly flog the speed kills pony , then they bleat on about how many lives are saved , have you ever heard any mention from the TAC about the number of people that are seriously injured ? No they don't advertise that figure as a matter of convenience now do they . My point is I don't for one minute believe that any of the Gov departments have any real interest in our health or safety , its all about the bottom line .MONEY.

I totally agree with you FTEMEL. I believe the whole speed kills is a load of garbage. How many of fatal accidents are due to driver fatigue, under the influence of drugs or alcohol or just the simple fact of poor training and not knowing how to drive or follow road conditions? But instead TAC has isolated fatalities to one reason. I'd like to finally see the entire system of obtaining a drivers license to be reviewed. It's too easy to get a licence and I must admit I have a few friends which i refuse to get in the car when they are driving, as they are a danger to everyone else on the road.

The big problem is not the fact they are targeting speed, but that they are overlooking many more opportunities to improve road safety.
It's high time they moved on from this single focus campaign and let the REAL facts dictate where their focus should lie. |

On Australian government web site-repeated on state web site is A GOD study into speed limits by productivity commission [I think?]-the finding are that trucks should have max 80Kmh speed limit and cars should travel no more than 90 or 100Kmh. Speed differential of vehicles is not a safety issue.
the death-injury cost [$] rate climbs dramatically as speed increases and travel times are not reduced by increasing speed. Down time or cost due to increase speeds are multiples of hourly rate savings [including personal time].the argument for increasing the speed on roads like newell hyway are shot down by the health and safety need to stop for fatigue managment.... No joke someone got payed to decide the speed limits should drop to save the planet-get workers to get jobs closer to home-buy local goods and allow road freight cost to balloon so that other methods become possible. P/S the RMS believes in what its printed---from this month they now allow us to drive a grader/roller on a rural public road up to 25Km from its garage, or 5Km in more populated area--75 Km out west. Up from a silly 5Km. Our shire is 160Km across so lots of wide load transports happening. Vic and NSW speed campains. they are publically targeting speed--they aren't really policing it. Today news story was shock horror a B double clocked 20 Kmh over---they should get out and drive the rest of the hyway system. if it was the case the power to be would speed limit all vehicles or GPS track them.NSW has had endless trials of systems. speed camera signs looks good on a road side poster--and with a few people complaining that they been stung for within 5 Kmh over to stress the hell out of poor drivers. P/S rich or company drivers--do they realy care about fines. My older friends that have been booked in recent years have had the fines over turned--good record for 10 years, or received apoligies for an uncalibrated camera--found after an audit.so its All bluff and crap. GPS Tracking--lots of my mates have tracking on all vehicles and there is a push for user pay rego charges. I was trained 3 years ago fto install it but it hasn't happened. My mates have found massive savings in costs,they even get taxi/hire cars or provide cheep cars to pick up drivers waiting for loads so they can have meals or sleep away from vehicles--saving massive cost of empty trucks driving around towns looking for fuel or hotels.

What wrong with an advanced lience for exceeding 120Kmh--that way you limit poor drivers to 50Kmh.
