Default Chrysler recalling Jeeps again

Thousands of Chrysler cars in Australia are being recalled as part of a worldwide problem with automatic head restraints

Quote:
Fiat Chrysler Australia says 3725 Jeep Cherokee cars and 520 Dodge Nitro vehicles built between 2011 and 2013 are affected in Australia.

Chrysler announced on Wednesday it was recalling about 490,000 cars and sports utility vehicles to fix the glitch.

The US manufacturer says potentially fatal microcontrollers have been installed in certain vehicles that may prevent head restraints from automatically moving forward during some kinds of rear-impact collisions.

Fiat Chrysler Australia will contact all Australian owners of affected cars and ask them to go to their local Chrysler Jeep and Dodge dealer, a company spokeswoman says.

"We will then replace the component or upgrade the system software at no cost to customers," she said.

The spokeswoman says they are not aware of any injuries or accidents associated with the problem.

If customers have any concerns before they are contacted by the company, they can go straight to their local dealer, she says.

they are not having a good run of late

At least they get on to it and do the recall, unlike some other manufacturers that try and duck and dodge issues and only issue recalls under duress.

Like most American cars...the cheaper ones anyway. They're built down to a price, for a market that changes cars quicker than it changes its underwear. We usually only see the better quality stuff over here, but from all reports the "ordinary" models in the USA are just that..."ordinary".

Forget the F150's and F250's and Silverados and Rams we see here as imports...they're all upper spec models, XLT as an absolute minimum. In the USA, the ones for sale down around twenty grand are shocking. The people calling for imports of those vehicles here, thinking they'll sell heaps, are sadly mistaken. They're well below the standard we have come to expect in this country...until of course you get higher up in spec and more expensive.

jeep, chrysler, fiat . . . . what more could be expected
the jeep ads get more mileage than the cars do . . . . unless tray truck miles count

Any how jeeps are known to have lots off issues just google Jeep reviews & you will find tons of customers complaining about them, im just glad they are making a recall as some here stated that other manufacturers wont unless they are pressured to do so.

funny we just did a round trip of 850 ks and the trip meter says I still have 250 ks to go. (95 litre tank 3l turbo diesel isn't too bad economy wise).

Jeeps are great cars but if your new to the brand your better off keeping to the regular long running models....which usually excell more in rough n tough off road and not so much electronic supercomputer like the latest set jeeps r trying to be. But that's my slightly previous jeep owners opinion.

I had a very bad experience with a landcruiser ,visit oh what a lemon and you will soon find out.anyway I bought a jeep and its been a great car, super reliable and I will never buy another Toyota again.
the only real problem with jeeps are the small dealer network, at least they have the nuts to do the recall.

Interesting reason...
"An electrical polarity problem could cause the wrong side-impact airbags to inflate in a side crash. If the van is hit on the right, the left-side bags would inflate, and vice versa.
The larger recall involves 442,481 vehicles. It can be traced back to the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, which interrupted supplies not only of cars but also some components.
Chrysler says: "The potentially faulty micro-controllers...entered the supply chain after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan caused a worldwide micro-controller shortage."

So what makes a Jeep a 'poor mans Great Wall' exactly?

Which Jeeps are Hecho En Mexico? I thought Toledo was long considered 'Home of the Jeep'. Current Grand Cherokee is made in Detroit (and even shipped to China!) and prior Jeeps were made in Austria.

Isn't this a bit like saying the upper spec G6ET is built to a better standard than an XT Falcon?
