Nice find mate and yes, Fusion is the Mondeo.

As can be seen, no sign of fullsize sedans from the big three where once, the Taurus was up with the Accord/Camry so it's not just an Aussie thing or a Ford thing.

Massive gap between the F series and Silverado, and if i'm not mistaken, the F series has been pretty much number one since it was introduced?

If you add the GMC Sierra to the Silverado it is bloody close.

Sad to see Commodore and Falcon fall off a cliff here but the big pickups continue to do well in the US.

I would suspect a vast number of those two top sellers...the oversized trucks...would be sold to business and fleet buyers.

The fact they start down near twenty grand is another reason people buy them in droves. There's absolutely no way anyone can say "They oughta import them here!!!!!", because if they did "import them here", they'd have to be sold as a premium product at high prices...and "premium" they're not. "Built to a price" is more like it. The massively overpriced imports we see here are usually the higher end models (such as the XLT a guy I work with owns, but even it isn't that flash), and the majority of those astounding sales figures would be ordinary models that the motoring public here, fed on a diet of well built well equipped Japanese utes and trucks, simply wouldn't accept in profitable numbers.

They would sell their pants off over here, but they arnt built in RHD - nothing to do with quality, perceived or otherwise.

No they wouldn't, no diesel engines (apart from the Ram), would cost a fortune to run, and wouldn't do the job better than better-built Japanese light trucks. They'd be a vehicle for the show ponies and weekend warriors, with a few niche business uses (like tow trucks) and that's it. Plus they'd be up against the existing Japanese pickup vehicles which can still be parked in the average sized garage of an Australian home and fit into shopping centre car parks and tight worksites.

That's an important and surprising point about diesel...Yanks still see diesel as "18 wheeler fuel", and are very reluctant to accept it as pick up truck...or even car...fuel.
And yes, there is the size. The guy I work with has an extra cab XLT F250, a few years old. He has hells own job parking the thing anywhere. It hangs out of the car spaces at work by nearly a meter, he doesn't even bother going into shopping center car parks, and it lives on the foot path at his house. They're just too big, when they don't have to be.
Towing capacity? Matched by a half a dozen other "normal sized" vehicles. The reason the sales are so high in the USA is an expectation of cheapness, and changing their car every couple of years. They cost just over twenty in the USA...and there's a reason for that.

I think anyone with horses would want one. Rural areas would probably find a strong demand for these trucks given the number of them already in these areas.
What's the towing capacity of the 2014 F250 now; 11 tonnes?
With a fifth wheel you could just about move heaven and earth with that thing - 300kw and 1100nm of torque.
Not sure what you mean by no diesel besides Ram?
Ford has the 6.7 litre Powerstroke and Chevy has the Duramax.
Who'd want an overpriced hilux for 60K when you can have a bigger American pick-up for say 80K?

Diesel in cars is nearly non existent in the states, but in pick-ups diesel reigns supreme. Just look to the massive after market for the amount of diesel upgrades and options available.
All power pulls, mudders, 4x4 clubs etc push the diesel thing - except Jeep of course.

Jeep is finally going diesel in the States too with the V6 Diesel introduced into the Grand Cherokee in the US and the 2015/16 Wrangler is rumoured to be getting diesel in the US too.

Also the same V6 Diesel is going into the 2014 Ram 1500 so diesels are starting to move into the smaller pickups in the States.

What normal sized vehicles are rated at 10 tonne?

The Ford Ranger is only rated at 3.5 tonnes. The F-Series models Ford brought out here in the 2000s were rated at 4.5 tonne to be allowed to be driven on a normal car licence.

If a small vehicle could tow the same weight as an F-Series, they wouldn't even exist.

It is kinda funny to see it go from F-Truck, Silverado and then down to the Camry in third place. Huge difference there in whats selling.

Maybe its just places like Kalgoorlie but from my experience/opinion they'd sell like hotcakes here if priced properly. Plenty of people still fork out $150k for them here. They're not built poorly either, tough as hell, reliable. The size would be daunting to some yes, but hell more and more thesedays people just park their cars on the road/driveway anyway. Theres plenty of Diesel 'Trucks' sold as well. Guys in the States mod the absolute crap out of Chevy Duramaxs, turn them into quarter mile monster trucks that spit out enough smoke to kill a Prius.
