Since I know the details of the theif I'm hoping the insurance company hits him up for every cost possible. I'm also going to hassle the police about going back to his house for my keys. Especially with my house keys on the keyring. Either that or I'll go there myself.
For peace of mind just change your locks on car & house!!!

What is done is done. Let's not dissect what he's done and criticize what can not be changed. Just learn from your past experiences.

To help protect you property and increase the likelihood of getting it returned if someone does steal it record all of the serial numbers of your property. This includes mobile phones, TVs, laptops etc. If the property is stolen most of the time the crims will try and sell it to pawn shops. The pawn shops must keep a log of any property that they buy and give it to police to do checks on the serial numbers etc. Police will also do property checks on property through the serial number if they come across property that they believe is stolen. If there is not serial number recorded when the property is reported stolen then police do not get a match on the recorded stolen property when they do these checks.

I don't know your living arrangements but if you or your family have any expensive jewellery or just jewellery that has some type of sentimental value don't keep it in your top drawer of your bedside table. Most crims will break into a house and go straight to the bedroom. Most crims are in and out of a house in 5 minutes so will go to the usual places that people keep their jewellery.

But yeah, change those locks asap.
