As for the OP's question, for an everyday driver, I'd take the low end for sure.

I'm going to have to side with the majority and say that I'd much rather have low end torque to move mountains rather than a top end rush. Torque low in the rev range is what makes cars such as the Falcon such a pleasure to drive.

Easy. For everyday use, Low end torque is the only way to go! My TD and V8Jeep are just perfect for such duties.

For weekend fun, both! You want something with enough bottom end to lift the front half of the car and enough revs to not run out of puff.

I too choose torque.

Getting up in the clouds but my ideal car for both torque (have not got it yet) is the 2003 BMW 760L 6l... 600nm torque at around 3950rpm 327kw at around 6000rpm top speed of 305kph and gets to 100kph in 4.2 seconds. So great torque at fairly low revs and you beaut KWs at higher revs. Great power to weight as well. My old VT was 11kg to 1kw. the BMW is 6.8kg to 1kw. no wonder the figures are so good but like I said up in the clouds until I can scrape some more money together or win lotto. LOL

Too right you are. My mate took me for a spin in the twisties with his Integra Type R, and I've never had so much fun.

Front wheel drive and 4 cylinder, I thought no worries mate, show me what you got, knowing my XR6t blows it away. How wrong I was... This thing was revving its guts off and holding corners like it was on train tracks. Never experienced anything like it. Gave me a new found love for hi-po jap fwd cars...

I personally prefer low end torque. My AU powers up hills with the A/C on in fourth like there is nothing there, no change from flat ground, where as my mum's 190kw 3.0L VE wagon is quick, but it has to rev more to make it up hills and has horrible, horrible lag. The AU still has plenty of power along with it's torque and is effortless to drive. I'd say better than the VE.

This.

Just prod the accelerator, get the car moving, keep the revs low.

I like torque to be savage straight through the rev range without it loosing breath....and walk out with a massive whip lash

When I was working at Honda the mechanics I was working with took me for a spin in cars we where servicing, Integra Type R, particularily DC2 is an incredible car. The S2000 is good as well, but she got nothing under 6000 RPM, seriously, a Corolla would smoke you at the lights under 6000 in one of those things.

Torque
Nothin better than pulling up hills in top gear
Nothin better than overtaking in top gear
Without revving the rings outta something

Mid to high.

I love how when doing hills runs I can flat foot my EB at 1800-2000rpm and it don't break traction.
But time its exiting corner, its hitting full boost and away we go.

If I had to pick one or the other, torque. But two engines have proved to me that you can have both. The 3.5L V6 EcoBoost in the F-150. Massive low-end torque and the high-rev turbo rush, and the 6.6L Duramax diesel from GM. It's a monster! It's more the torque that really makes these two engines shine.

Which line would you prefer? The power one, or the torque one?

I'll take both thanks

Both is good when combined in the one package.

I like both. A well matched turbo with a 4L Falcon has bucket loads of torque when tuned 'down low'. It's just that the top end rush is just something completely off it's nut!

Keeping my car under 2k away from the lights I'm still ahead of the traffic... keep it over 2k and closer to 4k+ and then the traffic can follow the lines I've left behind me to know where on earth I just went

To comment on this though... in all honesty if I didn't have my car. I'd have a Kenne Bell blown late model Ford. Manual trans, diff gears and all the fruit. Yep

I can see where this is heading, in the future, most people will be happy with their electric powered cars producing 100% torque at zero revs,

Low down torque for every day driving, but love to have a shot at the top end of my Sprint, goes mad from 3000 revs which is a surprise given you can potter on the torque and hold 3rd around round abouts etc

Anyone had experience with the Boss 302s, heard they could rev 7000, early 289 hi-pos something close as well?

Yes please! Electric motors are the way to go, it's just the battery technology we're waiting for.
