Hate to tell you this Nick, but those 70's/early80's Toyotas can be opened with a letherman tool, no packing tape required.....

Got a really burly mate who caught some b*stard breaking into his grandmothers house at 2 in the morning; called up some of the boys and they messed him up good. My mate approached him and made out like he was going along with it - said the f@@kwit was high at the time. Anyway, after they threw him a beating he wouldn't soon forget, they drove him from Sydney to Wollongong airport, stripped him naked (so all he approached would run the other way), took all his clothes, keys and wallet and dumped him there. Got 20 mins away and threw his stuff out at the top of mount Ousli.

Point is my mate had seen him looking around his street for a couple of weeks beforehand. Hasn't seen him since in the last three years. Without getting into too much detail the guy was a copper at the time and reckons that if he had have charged him, he would be breaking into houses in his street within the week so instead decided to teach him a lesson. I guess if even the cops know the situation is hopeless, then there's no real hope for any of us.

No offence to any 'P' platers out there who drive well.....But the tits who drive the cars to the limit and prang them need slappin'!!!! And those who steal from anyone should have their fingers broken. It worked in the good old days!! so i've been told....long before i was born of course. It makes me sick though. I hate blatant disregard for others property.
Nothing to do with cars here....went to take my 2yr old daughter to the swings the other day and found someone had snapped of the little safety chain!!!!!! Bugers!!!!!

Green Machine, check out your local Cash Converters for the next few months... they're the biggest legal 'fence' around.

Bear in mind, if someone 'hocks' an item, they (the pawnbroker) should hold it for 3 months before they put it out for sale. What you see for sale in their showroom is nothing compared to what they're waiting to sell...after the 3 month period..

I've lost a GME UHF CB, Kenwood stereo, so I can imagine your agro level.

No one's touching my xc that's stored at my mates place. If they do they might get a nasty surprise. Put it in your back yard and get one of these...

Best advice is not to leave anything of obvious value in your car when you are not in it. As for head units, remove from vehicle, face if possible. This is about all you can do to guard against theft from motor vehicles. I think alarms, unless they notify you (ones which call your mobile) or are monitored(GPS) are a waste of money.

I'll put an immobiliser in it when it's running again, and never, ever leave anything of value in it.
Sorry mate you are hardly a 'victim' if you did nothing but lock the doors to prevent it! Everyone knows that there are people out there that need quick money.

Unless you have a really decent alarm and a decent car, I don't reckon they are worth the effort.
What do you expect for $50? You get what ya paid for! I wouldn't spend less than $200, others might.

A carport? ;)

Nah, if my dog was guarding my car, the would-be thief would be treated to a wagging tail, a damn good licking all over, and then finally a tummy scratch (um... the dog's not the thief's...).

Had my dog been out there, I would still be hosing up whoever touched my car. Sadly, he was locked up.

Maybe I'll just leave everything with the keys in it and put a big "TAKE MY STUFF" sign out the front... At least then I won't have to worry about it.

Actually, that's a good point. Did you report it to the police? Second hand shops are required to take a photo and record name and DL numberof sellers to stop this sorta thing. Also check the trading post. Chances are he lives nearby. He may even have a lawnmower for sale.

Sorry, not meaning to poke fun. I should come down for a weekend. We can sit some valuable stuff in the tray. Sit in the driveway in the dark drinking beer. Wait for someone to come back.

a rather effective security system is a Snake system. Costs anywhere upwards of $100, only needs to be fed once every 3 months or so, doesnt smell, doesnt leave nasty surprises anywhere and is guaranteed to scare the living sh1t out of anyone attempting to steal the car. obviously the non-lethal Carpet Python is the model of choice unless you want to get particularly nasty. may require a license to own it.
