I notice atleast once or twice a week I would wake up out of no where... an start twitching and my heart would have pins and needles.... weird feeling.... went to docs and said everything is alright but my coloestorol is 8....which he said wouldn't be the problem....

edit: an I sometimes wake up out of no where and start shaking for like a few seconds - but so use to it that i just ignore it and go back to sleep...anyone have this problem?

Same ... I sleep when I am tired ... If I am awake ... just do stuff to keep myself amused (I hate boredom) ... I usually go for a drive if i am bored at night.

Reminds self to go on a decent night drive soon ... has been ages since I have driven the entire night ... good fun.

Get a different doctor man ... seriously ... he's telling you porkies.
My Father died when I was 12 ... he had a hereditary cholesterol problem ... which i have now ... 8 is classed as elevated and a diet change is needed along with regular blood tests to keep a eye on it.

My level was 11.5 when I was 12 (I was a scrawny kid as well) ... changing my diet didn't help ... so i had to go on medication (which i have to take for the rest of my life).

ALso with the pins and needles and heart pulpitations you are having ... this is not a good sign ... pins and needles is due to bad circulation (high levels of cholesterol in the blood can do it too if it clogs some veins ... also causing a heart attack).

I used to have these until I dropped my cholesterol level down to 6.5 (best I can get it at the moment ... but slowly goign down though) ... I have found that my hands/arms/feet/legs don't lose sensation at night and go numb/pins and needles anymore.

From memory your HDLs (High Density Lipids) need to be below 7 ... or 6.5 .... and your LDLs (Low Density - this cleans the HDLs out of your body) ... needs to be more than your HDLs (can't remember the figure now).

I suggest getting another doctor to check it out for you.

Although back in 1988 when my Dad had a medical (he was 38 at the time) we found out his cholesterol level was 14.x ... the doctor back then said it's nothing to worry about ... but back then ... no one knew about cholesterol.

I have been monitoring my cholesterol level since I was 12 ... and now I am 28 years old.

I feel better now since my cholesterol level has dropped.

Back when I had to work graveyard shifts, what I did was this, say I had to work 1am Saturday to 9am, I'd stay up Thursday night as long as possible, preferably until after daybreak Friday, then sleep Friday during the day, then it was possible to be as awake as possible to do the graveyard shift, then I usually stayed up as long as possible Saturday and go to bed Saturday night, which would mean I'd wake up at a normal hour Sunday morning.

So what I'd do is try and stay up for as long as possible, drink lots of coffee and coke/pepsi, and try and stay up for the entire night and the entire next day, then you'll find it easy to go to sleep the next night, and will wake at a normal hour the next day.

Brutal perhaps, but I find it works for me.

Anyway... if sleeping patterns are way out, a potentially viable solution is to take say 2 weeks annual leave if you can and try and get in a routine, and include regular exercise and sunlight during this period.

Yeah, I am only 20....so if i ended up having a heart attack then that's just too young!

I got 3 different types of blood tests, and my sugar levels etc... were all good, only my colestoral was 8 :(

I feel better if I don't eat for a whole day... but if I starve myself for a day I end up eating twice as much as I normaly would each day.... =(

My twin brother doesn't have problems with his colestoral at all.... WHY ME :X - my younger bro has colestoral problems though...

Latly, i've been eating some junk food, but most I eat is healthy stuff..... I used to have 2lt of coke some days... and others I would have 4 ltrs.... I have since cut that down to zero - last time I had 2lts of code was probably 2 weeks ago... I've got stuck on orange juice =)

get youself checked out by another doctor 8 is high 10 is considered a time bomb mine was 6.5 and i went on medication dont worry about medication it puts your body into a normal working state . i had a health kick last year dropped from 84kg to 71 in 3 mths through out my medicine and exercised like crazy . i was on bp medication too . through them away it has been 12 months now 6 months ago my choleterol was 3.9 and bp 130 /80 today my bp was 110/75. lately i have put on 6kg and got lazy . so back into it for me . you just have to get fit man and eat healthy but take medication if you need to as well .i am still on no medication . but 2 weeks ago my bp was 130 /100 high . so you can fix it with exercise and healthy lifestyle . get your cholesterol down man use medication 1st . get it down keep fit then after 12 months try and wean off the medication if it doesnt work than stay on medication and keep fit anyway . by the way your liver manufactures it's own cholesterol so sometimes diet wont work .

I do shift work, and I cannot sleep at all during the day. I had to get some sleeping pills from the doc to help during night shifts!

My sleep pattern is always buggered. I feel tired as @#% but cannot get to sleep easily. Or wake up constantly.

How annoying..

Exercise is good ... I have been getting a fair bit now working on the property (10 acres) and also working my 2nd job as well (courier driver) ... I am feeling better as I am feeling a lot fitter.

Changing you diet will make you feel a lot better as well. I have cut junk food out pretty much altogether ... and I don't drive soft drink (unless that's the only thing that's available to drink).

Unfortunately for me ... I have to remain on my medication ... just diet alone will not fix my cholesterol problem ... but it's only 1 tablet a day ... and no side-effects at all (thank God).

XESPAC ... like GTFPV said ... go to another doctor and get a 2nd opinion ... just for your own health's sake. I would be.
