I suspect from the part numbers that they may well be different:
ER 3C662 A SHAFT STEERING COL, LOWER, (-) XR8, ALL 6 CYL ENGINES ER 3C662 D SHAFT STEERING COL, LOWER, (4 DR SED (-)S/XR6 5.0 V8 OR FAIRLANE/LTD 5.0 V8 OR 4 DR WAGON FORTE/FAIRMONT 5.0 V8) Cheers Russ

Russell is correct, I went through a similar process with mine around this time last year, there is a difference between the two (the V8 one is thicker from memory). I sourced mine from FTG, they would have them if you don't feel like going to Ford for it.

Just had one replaced in the TL50.
Trade price for the shaft is around $400+, have to go genuine as there is no aftermarket shaft available. |

I took a pic of them from our stock, the one on top is the V8 one but the actual shaft is the same length and diameter. The V8 one is $549.00 and the 6cyl is $347.00 retail prices.
A bit rude, a larger bell and some shielding for an extra $200.00 Last edited by Papa Smurf; 12-06-2013 at 01:04 AM. |

A little OT but what symptoms are you experiencing to make you want to replace it? My steering is VERY loose, easy 1-2inches of free play in the wheel so I think I may need a new one as well.

You could get someone to put a couple of welds on it. I had to do this to mine as there is no intermediate shafts available for e-series anymore.
