Default Replacing Steering Wheel & Rear IRS Bushes

Hey Guys,

I was wondering if the experts can tell me how hard and what is needed to complete a Steering wheel swap as well as remove, rebush and refit an IRS Rear end for my AU Fairlane...

Was told that the rear end looks shagged and i might put a set of 3.7's in to replace the 3.45:1..

Links to workshop Manuals or if someone can email me the required documentation it would be handy as well!

Changing Steering Wheel

Hi Nathan, I'm no expert, but have done a number of steering wheel swaps. This how to should help out with that.

Both my AUs are live axle so unfortunately I'm no assistance to you there. As for the swap to 3.45 to 3.7, there are many who'd say don't bother, as they'd reckon that you'd need 3.9s or such to notice any real difference, but my understanding is that 3.7s are a sweet combination for the 4 speed.

I do have 3.7 gears in my manual sedan and don't feel they match quite right to the T5. I find first gear a tad short, but that's my preference I guess. If I had my time again, I'd have probably gone with the 3.45s for that application.

All the best with it.

Cheers GK for the Info on the Steering wheel GK..

I just hope i can de-energise the airbag without disconnecting the battery as i have a electrical problem that is intermittant and an cause the imobiliser to kick in...

I have a few sets of gears here as my Valiant runs the same now.

3.45/3.7/3.9/4.11 and i think 4.5...

Yeah you can. In a Series 2-3 just pull the fuse - number 17 (10 amp red).

In a series 1 pull both - number 17 (5 amp orange) and number 21 (10 amp red).

Cheers,

Yep, the last time I did something similar. Not quite out the car, but very tentative as I disconnected the airbag!

We'd all hate to have one go off in our face!

Glad it all went well.

I was actually standing out of the car, pointing the bag at my brother in the passenger seat...
