Default AU3 ipod compatibility

What is the best way to hook up an Ipod to the AU3 factory stereo, can ya get a similar set up to the BA and BF with an auxillary input and wiring harness or would it be easier to fit an AU2 unit that has the CD and cassette player and run it thru the tape player? I've tried it thru an FM transmitter and the sound quality is shthouse, as well as needing to change the frequency every 10km so thats a no goer. Cheers.

Running it thru the tape works well on my AU2, sound quality is pretty good.

cs1978: this may not be the case in all AU3's, but mine didnt have a tape deck, just a blank peice like on the 6 stackers, but with out the 6 stacker.

ive got an aftermarket head unit that has a cord running to the glovebox that plugs into the ipod, then you flip through the menus and songs and what not on the head unit, id say thats the best way.
