So this evening I'm boppin' along at about 80kph thinking that the engine was a bit louder than usual... window not fully closed?...no....what, oop's auto decided to change from 3rd to 4th.
I slowed down and tried to reproduce but it wouldn't do it on demand but at some random moment a little later it did the same thing. I thought it did something (this) unusual once yesterday, as well. Obviously, I'll check oil level but if it's more serious, what is it? Solenoid? Valve body? Electrical connector? Poor hygiene? |

AU four-speeds will lop into top at 55kmh quite foolishly If you've got a 3.08 then you'll have the torque converter lock up at ~80kmh Unlocked top at 80 = about 1900rpm, locked up top at 80 = about 1500rpm Third will be singin out at about 2400rpm or maybe more Magic 8-ball says: Get it serviced if it hasn't been done in over 12 months, check more, report back and keep on boppin'.

Just an update to this, I changed out the filter + auto transmission oil (pan and torque converter) today. The oil that came out has been in just on 12 months (I guess around 12000kms) but was like water. I've never seen trans fluid lose viscosity so quickly.
Anyhoo, new stuff in so we'll see if that gets rid of the sluggish change. |

oops...
i might do the AU's box after this as the shifts are getting worse and worse, and it doesn't go into reverse until you give it a few rpm's and then keep them up.. whats the general price for the full trans stuff? and also, how many litres does it take?

The whole changeout took around 13 litres (maybe a little bit more, I bought 3 x 5L containers and there's a litre + a bit left in one of them) |

Speaking of which, I changed my fluid and filter a few months ago, and just lately it was starting to shift gears a bit rough (clunk) when accelerating slow (shifts were pritty smooth when accclerating a bit harder). New front uni joint made no difference. Though I'd better check the fluid level, might be leaking and getting low. So I popped the plug out when fluid was hot and about1/4 litre (definately not 1/2 litre) came out all over the garage floor! Silly me, I'd overfilled it. Its running really smooth again, like new. Wouldn't think a slight overfill would make that much differnce, but obviously it does.
