Just got the new AMC copy (Issue 52)
Read the small section in the introduction titled,
"Success comes at a price "

What do you guys think of this joker ???
Is he for real ???
Or from another planet ???

I have my thoughts about this ,
He is a joker ,hes not for real,from another planet

Am i right ???
What do you guys think ?

Yeah I read it and had a laugh. Someone has some major sour grapes and is blaming everybody but himself for his lack of fortune.

A disgruntled reader who is complaining about AMC articles being the reason for the increased value of Australian collector cars. Looks like he has had such cars in the past which he sold on some time ago at relatively low prices but can't afford one now.

I can see what this guy is getting at, not that I agree with him at all. There are all sorts of people out there with different thoughts and ideas, just like there are so many different views that you see here in AFF in the various discussions, some quite extreme and not realising the actual reasons, like with this guy.

Seems like its just a coincidence.
The US muscle car market went up at the same time.
Not too mention all classic or rare vehicles.
Maybe the guy dosen't get out much.

If you look hard enough, there's still the occaisional bargain to be had. The guy in the article must be one of these guy's who missed the boat on a classic and is too lazy to go and look for one.

I think its wrong to pinpoint 1 perticular event or magazine for the soaring prices

Maybe this bloke hasnt heard of supply and demand

I reckon a fair few on here have sold stuff for a fair amount ,at that time,then realised years later it was wrong
But we get over it (well eventually)

Bargains are still out there

I've always wondered, once all the old timers are 6 foot under, and there is no one left who was around when these classics were around, will they be worth much?

You're kidding, right? The cars sell themselves - they are works of art, but I think I understand what you are getting at. Once the Baby Boomers have all died off, will they be worth the same intrinsically as well as financially?

I love AMC, been getting for yonks, unfortunately I missed about the first 5 issues before I knew it existed.
My car was in the latest issue in the letters section, yellow XC, when I saw it I had a big smile on my face.

Probably not but things like GTR editions of Skylines, will become the new "classics".

30 years from now, Generation Y will be getting on, these are the playstation generation's hero cars.

It is the best motoring magazine around because it is about the cars and the drivers; and not what the journos are doing.

I read the guy's rant and I can sympathise with him. I too would like to have some of the cars I sold for a song based on today's ridiculous prices.

I fail to understand why blokes will pay $40,000 to $50,000 for an old car when for the same money they can get a nice late model Ford.

But in the end it's their choice and their money.

Yep, Got all but the No.1 issue and I do enjoy reading it cover to cover. I think they did the right thing by putting it in there without having a go at him, readers are lining up to do that. It was truly bizarre, what was he thinking?. He could of blamed Shannons Auctions, The Internet or Unique Cars if he's going down that path. And what was that bit about the Bowdens? You have to respect a family that have sunk a heap of money into saving some pretty well beaten race cars, good luck to them if they make a dollar while doing it.
So lets blame Real Estate Agents for blowing out the housing market! It's a supply and demand thing, if there are only a few hundred of one car and a few thousand potential buyers of course some will be happy to pay more than its true value.
If he can't even buy an old Valiant Wagon I don't think he's going to step into Aussie Muscle for the same dollars, even if the market hits the fan.
Yeah, I'd love a real GT, but I've only got myself to blame for not having one, but I'm OK with that!

Well I couldn't afford a muscle car V8, so I settled on a Cortina.

I'm having a lot of fun looking after it seeing as it doesn't have and computers or power anything; so I can fix stuff without breaking anything else.

Haha, I feel the opposite way. Why buy a ubiquitous late-model car for 40K if you can get beautiful Falcon Hardtop? To each his (her) own.

I first got into Classics when I was working for the local Ford dealer in the '80s - got bored with new cars as I drove them everyday and had a two year old Falcon as the family car so bought something different for a weekend toy - '35 Ford Sedan, original SV V8 and a great old runner, cruises all day at 55 - 60 mph. Twenty years later, and a couple of newer "old" cars, I got the bug again and forked out the equivalent of a new Aurion, Falcon etc for an XB V8 Hartdtop, nothing new drives quite like it or sounds like it (sorry Mr EPA Inspector) and, two years down the track it's worth more that I paid unlike if I had spent that money on an Aurion or Falcon - would be lucky to be worth half as much and all sterile and quiet and cocoon like. Fair dinkum, drive a real classic like a tank Fairlane or '65 Galaxie, either of which are about half the $$ listed in the above post and then tell me why you'd like a "nice late model Ford" (I'm still in the motor trade and reckon there's no such thing)

Don't get me wrong guys, I'd love an XC hardtop, or a Mustang Fastback.

And just like the guy from AMC, I can't bloody afford them!

It was funny to see in on the editorial page, probably been the laughing stock of the magazine so they placed it there to grab attention. It definitely sounds like a sour grape from around the traps. At the end of the day there are heaps of affordable classics/muscle cars out there.
It is just people are too lazy to find thrum and spend a bit of time on them restoring them. Everyone knows you are unlikely to get the money back from what you put into a car. These cars that are $40-50k, how much money has been put into restoring it at the end of they day? (I know that always isn't the case but it is a lot of the time!
And Cav, love the corty! I would be over the moon to have a nice example like that in my driveway!

Live and Learn! I wish I had never sold my XB GS Wagon for 4K in 1992, but hey, that's life. Unfortunately the person who I sold it to, went to the movies and came out and some low life jad nicked it. He didn't even have it insured!!!

Still look out for a classic car to rebuild and work on with my kids, but good restorable vehicles are hard to come by.

i think I might just blame AMC, Street Machine and veryo other medium that shows an old Ford, Holden or Chrysler muscle car.

My kids (2 daughters) are already placing "dibs" on who gets what car.
I like countless others sold a genuine superbird and XB GT coupe to purchase our first home. Yeah, looking down the track i'm kicking myself but i think i have more than made up for it now.
