Default Heater pipe leaks at water pump and thermostat...Again!

I did a good and thorough job on the heater pipe seals at the water pump and thermostat about 6 months ago. Well they are both leaking again, small drop now and then. Crappy little o-rings, what do you expect. So besides stuffing it full of sealant and hoping for the best, is there any good long term fix for the problem? I think I read somewhere that you can get some sort of adapter from Ford, is that right?

Were the O-rings you changed black or green?
There is a modified type which is green and is better
at sealing. Part number is AU 8K540 A $2.75 each from
a Ford dealer, you may want to put some rubber grease
on the seals before you put them in, might also pay to
look for pin holes in the pipe.

That's the sort of thing I wanted hear, thanks Papa Smurf. Nah, they were black! Googled that part number, and found reference to x AU-8K540-A (O-ring) 1x BA18N318S (Spacer). The spacer apparently taps onto the end of the pipe, don't know what it does though.
