I wanted the same thing when in my 2000 S1 Au when it was just 1 year old.
Took it to Ford, bought the clock for $47 and left it with them.
8 hours later the clock is still sitting on the seat and their response was that the Forte did not have the proper wiring for the clock so it cant be done.
They suggested an Auto electrician could make the loom and make it work but it would void my warranty.

They did say however, that early AU1's, already had the loom there, ready to use, but it was deleted lator on in the first series.
The place where the clock goes, just clips out.
You could remove it and have a look to see if the wiring is there.
If it isnt, you could probably get the correct loom from the wreckers.
It is all plug and play with the correct loom.

i just noticed there is a small removable cover where the clock sits, i popped it off and it is moulded for the clock to fit, will have to wait till morning to check if there are any spare plugs in there.

thanks.

Would anyone know if the '98 models would have the loom? I've tried looking in the past, but haven't had a massive look for it. Cheers.

I've already got the S1 Clock (I also snipped the loom from the donor car), I just haven't been able to find the loom in mine. Was it hard to find in your's, or was it obviously sticking out?

Cheers Poelwyk; I'll check mine out in the morning and have a "Woman's Look" for the cord. Hopefully I'll find it.

My AU doesn't have the wiring for it. I do however have the loom; would it be as easy as running some wiring to the memory wire in the stereo to keep track of the time and then to the ground and to the positive?

the clocks backlight is off when the cars off, on when the cars on and dims when the lights are on, the actual clock is always displayed...

hope that helps you wire it up...

Cheers Cam

Thanks Cam, working from that information (which I didn't take into account previously), I should still be able to use the stereo wiring to do all this as the standard radios dim as well. Fingers crossed it will work out. =)

Falcon, how obvious would you say your's was to see? DId you really have to have a poke around to find it in there, or was it just a lump taped with electrical tape that was easy to notice?

i just wired up my old clock in my dads rodeo, got it working same as factory

black - earth
yellow/black = constant 12v
purple/red = either illumination or ignition (cant remember)
white = either illumination or ignition (cant remember)

the clock worked with just the constant and neg were plugged in but the light wouldn't work unless both the others were connected

edit, thats on a S2/3 clock, i assume a S1 is the same

Cheers Cam
