Just a quick question, how strong is the AU auto gearbox. Roughly how much power can it take, but more importantly, how long does it last when the car is left stock. Im looking at buying a AU, but hear the gearbox is the weaklink (from a mechanic) compared to the holden unit.
I dont want to start a war, im just trying to get info straight from the source. Thanks |

the tranny i dont believe is the weak link in the au series, it might have been in the e series. i ran some pretty decent mods on my tranny with a cooler and she stood up good

The stock AU auto will happily handle 200rwkw without too many ill effects.

My auto died at 107000kms.
If they are serviced and maintained, they should last a long time. But occasionally there can be a premature failure.

Service and maintenance of the auto box is the key really ... actually with any auto really.
change the auto fluid (don't use DexIII though) and filter regularly ... ie: 15,000-20,000km ... and it should last you. Mind gets a bit of a harder time as I am carrying load regularly and I push it a bit ... but it feels solid and strong ... so far I only have 127,000km on the ute (not much really for this type of vehicle).

Ive done 220,000km in my AU and have had no dramas with it at all. did some mods, exhaust, intake, leads, headers and nothing has gone wrong with it yet.
