Question Quiter tyres for cars

I think quieter tyres are definitely a good idea but I don't think it has as much impact on public health as they say it does. What are your thoughts on it?

As per one of the comments on that video, the road surface makes a hell of a lot of difference to the amount of noise created by the tyres. Concrete roads and more gravelly roads are especially noisey. I think the higher the tar content, the quieter the road is, although then it's more likey the road surface will become more misshapen with use.

Back to tyres though, if you really can create quieter tyres without compromising on performance AND longetivity then it's a great idea and more money should be invested in it.

interesting, i could be wrong but i think our noise db limit would be much higher than europe, i dunno about public health but some tyres are definatly noisey, i do a bit of walking along a 4 lane rd near home and some cars just cruising at a steady pace are quite loud, even though there is little or no exaust noise.

Well...it comes under the category of Noise Pollution which can have a wide range of affects on people and the community. I know nothing annoys me more when i'm trying to sleep than a dog barking next door etc. Leads to frustration, lack of sleep, and we all know the dangerous effects of fatigue and operating machinery (such as cars).

Why don't you just burn your neighbors house down and kill their dog

Yeah, cause that's a logical reaction. I know, how about we strap some dynamite to the dog and... nah that's too complicated.

What about we get an elephant and a DVD player and... nah too hard.

I'm all outta ideas.
