I am fortunate to own a number of cars (6). However, the majority are only ever driven on a sunny Sunday. All are registered, well maintained and other than my every day driver, I would call them collectable.
Due to the cost of fully comprehensive insurance, I have 'downsized' to third party coverage for most of them. Is there an insurance company that is prepared to (or does), cover a vehicle for only the times that it actually leaves the garage? Thanks in advance. |

depending on type of vehicle i think some places do. you may need some kind of log book. i also may be getting confused with club rego and insurance.
i have a limited km policy on mine as i do less than 10000km a year. not sure how low you can go with limited km policies. sorry can't be of more help but i reckon there may be some better options out there other than 3rd party. |

Yes there is and I can't think of the name sorry but there was tv ads showing a PAYD system, but I think google would find it very much quicker than we would.

I think real insurance let you nominate the kilometres you drive a year and modify the premium to suit.

Yep, got it on the 'lane as it only does 5k a year.
www.payasyoudrive.com.au Very cheap for full comp. Good agreed value too - better than most full priced comp policies that tend to have lower agreed, or market values. Recognised Sportsman as a seperate model with higher agreed value - which was not so AAMI. You pay a base premium for the year, plus a premium based on k's you do (min 5K a year I think). Its rolled into one and is basically cheaper than anything else - sometimes by up to 70%. I think you can pay by the month too, but not 100%. Way it works is you nominate the start k's on your odo. Then you have the amount of k's worth of full comprehensive. Anything happens outside of that k's range, but still within the calendar period of insurance you are covered for 3rd party property, fire and theft only. You can apply to buy more k's if you run out (subject to approval), and unused k's carry over to next year. Check out the website, explains it pretty clearly. A good idea. Wish I could pay per k for my rego and CTP too. CTP insurer is having a laugh as the 'lane sits in a garage 75% of the year. Can't hurt too many people in there.

Talk to Shannons and LSV about a multi-car/stable policy. They look at the usage etc.

Just changed our insurance on the AUII XR8 to limited use with Shannons and now pay $546 compared just under 1k with Swann who we have been with for 5 years ( 1 $600 no fault claim) and had increased the premium by approx $200.
Must have been a lot of AU XR8's written off in the last year! And i get a further discount on the coupe too. |

Ok, so PAYD is no good for classic or modded cars. Meh. Shannons limited use for those then. Sorry.

I gave Real some feedback about not ensuring cars with any mods. Most of the low km market would be these types of cars that people have modified and love, but don't drive very much. Oh well.

PAYD isnt always cheaper. My missus is insured with CGU for 10000kms, which she does. PAYD was DEARER.
