Hey guys,
anybody know if it is possible to install an ipod connection in the standard stereo in a base model 06 Focus? If not, is the factory stereo a true double din unit? Can you replace this with an aftermarket double or single din unit? My sister just bought one and has asked me the question. I thought this was the best place to ask.

As far as I know, you can't connect an ipod connection to the stock stereo.
And no, it's not a 'true' double din unit. It will fit a single din unit with a tray underneath, or a double-din unit, but you need a bracket to slot into the frame first before they'll fit (the stock stereo is wider than a double din stereo)

Check the glovebox there should already be a AUX plug.
Just open the glovebox door and it should be on the top wall of the glovebox. |

the glovebox AUX input works fine for an ipod. any cheapie AUX cable will do the job, ie. you don't need a special "Ford" part.

the aux input isn't an ipod connection, it's just an input that plays whatever is coming from a 3.5mm audio out jack (on any mp3 player, mobile phone, etc). A dedicated ipod connection (one that plugs into the connector on the bottom of an ipod) is not available on the stock head unit.

But like they said it doesn't charge the Ipod nor does it turn it off or on, so make sure when you hope out of the car you turn your ipod off or else like us you come back to a flat Ipod. |

No worries thanks for that guys. My sister will be happy. I know the whole deal with the aux input and how it works as I have this standard on my Rspec.

Brandmotion in the US have great iPod connection kits for all US standard Ford radios.
They are seamless, and use all radio buttons to control the iPod with pretty much no lag. I have contacted them and given my radio's details to see if OZ Focii are compatible. Let you know how I go. Their initial response was that the SONY head unit might be compatible. (I also supplied a SN off one.) They have a great website. www.brandmotion.com Worth a dig around. Their handsfree kit is also brilliant.
