Default How much interest in engine covers?

Hey all.

I have a series 3 au xr8. After pouring over the web i still can't find a company that replicates these covers. Or the front bumpers either (thanks to the previous owner for cutting mine up).

I have done some research of my own into having a mold taken off my engine cover in the process to make new ones.

I just wanted to see what kind of interest there would be in these covers if i was to proceed.

Any feed back is appreciated.

Cheers Doug

Yes i did. If we are getting custom ones made, maybe fairmont decal will be better suited to my fairmont than an XR/TE one. so will they be plain?- and fibreglass or plastic??

i was just talking to a guy about this at work today. any chance we could find a place to get some custom aluminium ones made instead? Not really keen on covering my engine with a lump of fibre glass. might be interested if we could get them made out of the same plastics as the originals tho. carbon fibre, AWC???

i'll look into it for ya. i wouldn't have used fibreglass any way. dont think it would like the heat of an engine bay.

they make coolant bottle covers for the e-seies blokes from fibreglass, so they must handle engine bay heat ok?

I just dont want to fill my engine bay with fiberglass, i think it's cheating. What ever happened to the pride of the owners of big fords? For the same reasons i would never use bog to cover a dent in my car.

Its an engine cover? They originally came from factory in plastic. Last time i priced up a kit it was around 300+ from the wreckers. If i could get a smooth looking cover that i can decorate to suit my car- In fibre glass for 1/2 the cost- Hell yeah i wold buy it. Unfortunately they never put a cover on The V8 fairmonts. What does pride have to do with it?? If you dont like fibreglass- dont buy one simple!

Metal would be the worst thing you could use, the heat retention would be abysmal.

All well and good to have a cover, but you will need the brackets for it too.

Dont get offensive monty, i just dont like fiberglass. I did mention that i wouldn't mind either plastic or carbon firbre, but you obviously convieniently disreguarded that statement. If metal's not such a good idea so be it, i'm just saying that from a personal standpoint that i consider fiberglass as cheap and tacky, a particular pathway i dont wish to go down when modifying my vehicle. By all means fibreglass as much as u like on your ford.

Doubt it. One goes over the alternator, one bolts to the inlet manifold and there is another one that I can't remember without going outside to look at them.

yeah defs up for a cover, i dont think it really matters wether its plastic or fiberglass a plastic one wont cost much more i dont reckon, there are a fair bit of fiberglass on the xr's ne way. go the cheaper version i rekon if you want to produce heaps it will be way more cost effective
