Don't want to start a fight or anything, but I have thought for a long time, the Aussie ute, with a 5.4L/5.7L V8+.... all it's good for is burnouts! Too much engine for the vehicle size, low pay load, low towing capacity (you can't really call it a workhorse), rear wheel drive with no weight (traction) at the back.... Burnout machine... it's obvious. As long as people realize it when they are doing it, that as accidental as they make the burnouts look, everyone standing by knows it was deliberate, and at least 90% of those people think that driver is a moron, and were not the slightest bit impressed by the car or the driver...then they may be living in a world of reality.

But on the other hand, when you get a powerful car that's not so blatantly obvious for doing burnouts, and you give it a bit to see what the cars got, and it breaks a little traction in the process. Then it doesn't seem so "try hard." Then you can say the car is well balanced, the suspension is great, the wheels and tyres are great.... the car just happens to have too much power :-)

Think you'll find the BA/BF utes are actually HEAVIER than the sedans by 70 or 80kgs... Check out the chassis rails and you'll see why.

Who cares ,I look back at some things I did in the 70/80s that I thought where cool now I think I was a tool,each to there own. We slag off at ricers but some of the things they do are quite inovative. The young ones probably look at me with my centers and think to themselves get with the times. If we all do the same thing the car scene would be a bloody boring place.

wait,are you saying illegal burnouts dont happen?

its a fact, people do burnouts in the streets. im not in any way condoning it, but really, if it was to happen, you know, 'hypothetically', you would be better off using stockies than risking damage to an expensive rim.

maybe you should goto the drags and tell those guys there to 'man up' and use there mags.
same thing really isnt it??

Just because it happens doesn't mean it makes sense. People put stockies on the back of FWD cars, still doesn't make sense to me. Drastically affecting a vehicles handling characteristics does not make sense to me, it's just dangerous and makes you look like a tool.

As for your second paragraph, I do go to the drags. I have used my street rims, usually when you see people run stockies on the back there it is for traction off the line that you can't get with a low profile tyre. Nothing to do with "manning up" as you put it.

No one is arguing the fact that it does or doesn't makes sense to do burnouts. Hes saying that people will do them no matter what and they will do them the cheapest way possible. eg. stockies....

No one disputes the cost effectiveness of burning your 205/65/15 on stockos rather than expensive rubber and rims. But why do it on the road?

Of more concern, is the fact that so many underpowered crapbox's run burnout rims on the back (or even better, front wheel drives!)

I think it is supposed to look like you are a hard dude who peels rubber at the drop of the clutch (even though your poorly maintained commodore pulls 60kw at the back wheels).

It might impress johnny no-brain, but to those of use who regularly enjoy our vehicles on the racetrack or dragstrip, it makes the driver look like a try hard hanger-on.

but i do agree on the stockies on the rear of a FWD car. i really dont know what to think about that..

That is what you call an uneducated try-hard. Stockies on the front of a FWD just doesn't say "I'm fully hektik" like it does when they're on the back.
