Default Au engine number location

Gday all,
I am taking my Au S1 4ltr over the pits 2morro and was hoping someone can tell me where the engine number is located. Its not on the flat spot of the block below the gearbox on the exhaust side but thats where it is on the el ive got. Also i was wondering if its the same as the vin but i was thinking its probaly the second half of the vin as they are seperated on the compliance plate eg. 6FPAAA JGSWW******. I hope that makes sense to you all but any help would be appreciated. Cheers Chris.

It should be there on the flat spot under the exhaust, but now it is a series of dots to make up the letters rather than stamped letters, can be very hard to see, covered witha bit of rust/dirt/oil.

It should be the same as the end of the VIN if the engine is original.

Probably on some registration/insurance paperwork too if you have some
