If the car is already registered the checks are fairly basic. You take it to an inspection station which is usually a regular mechanic who is licensed for this test. They check for basic roadworthiness like operation of lights, tyres, brake function.

I'm not sure whether a car that has an interstate rego needs to get the more intensive "blue slip". Don't think emissions is tested either way.

If you still have a VIC address you can continue to keep it registered in VIC. I know of other people who do this as it's cheaper and you don't need the inspection.

To be rego in NSW it willneed a blue slip. Emissions on an XA wont be an issue. They dont even test it.

this is illegal if the car is normally garaged in NSW and insurance will be wiped as the car is not legally registered

Initial blue slip is quite thorough, checking Vin and engine numbers, rust, leaks etc Depending on the location, they could be strict on mods, and may require engineering for some things.

Annual pink slip is just very basic.
