My French friend tells me that his parents pay a flat fee of around $50 a month. This includes phone line, free landline calls ANYWHERE fast ADSL2 internet with no download limits. He laughs when he sees what we have to pay. But it is all relative. Our large areas to cover and low population to share the costs isn't doing us any favours. |

For example, with Telstra there are monthly plans, some of which you have a limit and if you go over that limit, you have to pay 15 cents extra per megabyte for that month. Or you can change to what they call "Liberty" plans where if you go over your monthly allowance, your speed slows down to 64 kilobytes per second until the next month, I'm on 256 kbps and it's very slow, 64 kbps would be unusable.(Thankfully, no matter how much I browse or download, I've never gone over the limit on the lowest "Liberty" plan). |

The Good: What everyone else said. Australia's awesome.
The Bad: If you're into recreational shooting, and used to US firearms laws, you're just about to find out about one of the downsides of our country. Last edited by Deech; 22-08-2008 at 04:35 PM. |

a lot of telstra bashing here, never had a problem. (30Mbit cable)
as for why i like AUS, it's vertualy the same size as the USA. but only 20 million population not 280 million (ponder that for a second) their's a thousand for's and fifteen negatives basicly, gotta love OZ. if you come here you will understand imeadiatly.

our firearm laws are there for a reason, hence why our country rarely has mass shooting incidents. i think they are quite good, i dont feel the need to have a semi/fully auto rifle to go shooting with. |

but what about when you need to blow the crap out of a deer and put 2 magazines of bullets in it withing 5 sceonds :P
I think the best thing about our country is that its like all other countries except 20 years ago, I dont mean that in every sense.. But our attitude is a lot more laid back than other countries and we'd rather all get a long and help each other out... mateship has been an aussie trait for a very long time and I hope our culture doesnt loose it, I think it seperates us from a lot of other places in the world

I'm not looking to start an argument, or derail a topic. It's pretty much impossible to persuade people either side of the firearms debate, or even argue it without getting a thread locked, so can we agree to disagree? You can always continue the debate over PM with me. |

huge diversity of car`s (maybe too many) great food, low crime rate, 30 270 km of coastline if you add tasmania, unlimited scenery, good people, great social safety net and medical cover CON`s cost of living, country is becoming over regulated specially road rules, our politicians seem to have NO CLUE , drought, manufacturing base is going out the window, and my spaling. good points far out way bad points |

Not a huge gun fan here, and never owned one.
Any good roller coasters there?

As for the good and bad about "Oz-traya" (you have to learn to say it right): Good: It is so far away from everywhere else in the world. Bad: It is so far away from everywhere else in the world.

A lot of people say that Holdens are bad...
Sure, we may not like them as much as Fords, but I'd take one over a Toyota. I'd take a Datsun over a Toyota...I just can't stand Toyota. What is also bad about Australia is the fact that there is no 18+ PC Gaming rating (stuff consoles - let the kiddies play with them :P). Say to parents, "You will have greater control over what games your children can play" and I reckon it will be well supported. The people that oppose this movement are the fools who have never played a game in their life, or worn their trousers below their chest.

When I call them on my mobile, I pay 18 cents a minute. It cost me 25 cents per 30 seconds to ring a land line here from my mobile. We really do get screwed over for phone calls here. Does anyone here remember this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=du8SXIG5Y9U
