Sorry got a few questions

Whats the reason for not letting street cars use slicks ?

Does this mean i can never come down with my car with 2 slicks on the rear?

What about semi slicks ?

Cheers

This series is a strict street class for registered street cars using DOT radial tyres - NO SLICKS end of story.

This series will be run in conjunction with the Legal off street meets...

so you can run slicks all day long, you just won't be competing in the Street Series...

There will be an announcment soon re dates, rules & classes for the upcoming AMC Open Drag Racing Series

Get out the toyo ra-1 proxes, made for competition racing but are dot approved street legal, Mauz run 10.92 on them.

Not sure if I have misunderstood the top post, they want to have a 9 sec club for cars that run street tyres?

Ive run 10.87 on MT ET Drag Radials

Its going to make it a pretty exclusive club...

But in saying that, theres no reason it cant be done, they are doing it in the US everyday..

Quote:
Stow, OH - Racers Rick Head and Dennis Bailey set both the E.T. and M.P.H. World Record at the World Street Nationals in Orlando Florida today on Mickey Thompson's ET Street Radial, a new Street Legal Drag Radial for D.O.T. Radial Classes. Rick Head ran the World's quickest pass on a street radial with a 7.663 E.T. at 186.58 mph and Dennis Bailey ran the Worlds Fastest Pass at 189.87mph with a 7.704 E.T. Just two weeks before this event Rick Head was crowned King of the Drag Radial Class by Hot Rod Magazine, who sponsored an event to determine the best drag racer on street tires.

I didn't they were dot approved in Australia, wouldn't like my chances on using them for a RWC..

There street cars are a little different to ours, he must have got a dodgy RWC. Take this car to Vic Roads as a street car..

They arnt DOT approved in Australia because we dont have a DOT
And I dont think you could get a RWC with them because they arn't load or speed rated from memory, but the man running the show said they are acceptable in the street series so im guessing it will be the tyre of choice...

I was thinking the same thing, but then open exhaust ain't exactly roadworthy either, so I didn't bother replying. Guessed that their just trying to define a category.

I understand what SLY is trying to do , how often does streetcar or is it a race car come up on here !! Also it is good to have a competitive series for the tough street cars. A step in the right direction for sure !!

It's good to see a class like this going ahead.I know of a few genuine 9 second streeters that run a M/T street radial to achieve this time.Just not real good in heads up racing though.

I guess a car running 8's will put m/t streets on just to win a lower bracket of racing : I see street driven cars head into low 10's with more development and work getting into 9.9 could be achieved and would be a great achievement.

Cheers bro, but I am just the messenger trying to help get the info to the people, Nez Demaj the new drag racing manager at Calder is the person responsable for getting this series underway...

I personaly think the 9.99 target is a good one, it is achievable but not easy, a bit of a challange thrown out to those already in the 10's

What about the first bloke to get his 9.9 pass , Will it be a requirement to have a rollcage ( If you run a 9.99 ) ?. It'd kinda kill the idea of having engineer certified street cars make the class as it's next to impossible to engineer a rollcage these days.

But as i understand it is the 9 second club not a 9 second series of racing. It the incentive to get your car to go faster. Just think of the guy running 10.9's then over the next year he cracks a 9.9 he then becomes a member of the 9.9 club and moves up to a faster class . Then it up to him if he wants to faster eg cage.

Your correct Calder want a cage for any car that runs 10's, happened to CSV_LS1 had 1 run in street trim F6 10.92 told no more passes without a cage.

Ok, how do I explain this...

The Legal Off Street Meets are as per normal.. so your fine to run..
If you want to compete in the Street Series you need to be within the street car rules.

So each meeting you will have the choice, street car series or normal off street runs..

It has been mandatory for anyone running 10.99 or faster to have a roll cage for the last 3 to 4 years.

Roll cages are fully legal in Victoria provided you follow the Vic Roads set out rules, and that is pretty easy..

See them here Roll Bars and Roll Cages [PDF, 768KB, 4 pp] No 28

Also please if you have the time guys & girls , read up on the Calder Park general safety Regulations, they will be STRICTLY enforced

you can read the here http://www.calderpark.com.au/losd_regulations.shtml

A copy of these rules will also be handed to each entrant over the 1st few months after the reopening

Ok here is a few updates and info to clear some of the questions up..

This series will be run in conjunction with the normal Legal Off Street Drag Meetings, so for those that do not want to compete or cars than do not meet the street series rules you can race as per normal in the LOSD

Engineers Certificate will be required

1. If the original engine the car came with has been replaced with bigger engine that was not an option on the model vehicle.
2. If the supercharger/s or turbocharger/s were not factory fitted or an option on that model.
3. If the rear chassis or rear wheel tubs have been altered in any way other than factory specifications.

That is all for the engineering side of things.

Tyres

Must be radials with tread! NO SLICKS
M/T ET Drag Radails are approved, so if you have any doubts they would be your best choice.

Other items that ARE approved

NOS - may be used but you must run in the blown class, even if you have only NOS lines fitted but no bottle, you still must run in the blown class.
Roll Cages - any vehicle running quicker than 11.00 MUST have an approved roll cage. Anyone can have a roll cage fitted as long as it has the required protective padding!
Wheels - no restrictions
Open Exhausts - no restrictions
Diff Changes - no restrictions other than chassis and wheel tub rules as above.
Transmission - no restrictions
