Default What 60 ft time do you think I could do?

Hi guys stupid question, what are your thoughts, I have an XB 4 door GT rep, it has a toploader with 3.5's in the rear, 17 inch wheels with 235 45 17's and 392 rwhp, what 60 ft times do you reckon are achievable, I would be stoked with a 1.8 or a 1.9 or something, I am taking it to the drags next month and I have to reset and stiffen my springs because I get severe axle tramp, I will eventually try slicks down the track. What are your thoughts cheers guys.

With the manual your 60ft times will suffer a little but 1.8 ,1.9 seem achevable , I am in the same boat. I am getting some tramp bars and some radial tredded slicks for Ford nats in September. Is that were you are going ?

3.5s are going to kill your times, go a lower ratio, get some tramp/slapper bars, soft slicks, and you will be looking at 1.7-1.8s or better.

thanks guys awww yeah I like the 3.5's it an awesome street ratio!!! See how we go. nah I am going to willowbank next month for a test n tune when its nice and cold, hoping mid - low 12's. What sort of shifter are u running paddy?

Do you guys have something to hold the engine down apart from the engine mounts incase something breaks? I was thinking of making something up like a strap or a chain to bolt to my block to stop my engine lifting at takeoff and the aircleaner hitting the bonnet......what u reckon?

I am running a competition plus hurst , i run 3.5's as well . Post up your results when you go out. - Pat

I have a brace that bolts from the passenger side head to the passenger side sway bar mount. Saves engine mounts.

oh yeah i run a hurst indy how do you find the gear changes? I have to do some fine tuning with mine. That brace sounds like a good idea....see how we go. Thanks guys.... Mark

Are you running anything special in your gear set Pat, and are you running 28's or 31's?

Not realy , if i was drag racing all the time then yes. The clutch on the other hand, a little ! But that is racing

Good luck at the drags
You will find the axle tramp would go if you put on a set of Drag radials, Hoosiers, or other type of Drag tyre.
The engine brace on the front of the P/S head is good but you will find this will make the rear of the gearbox jump up as the engine is being held down from the front corner not realy a problem, but a bolt through the P/S engine mount with a old shocky rubber is a easy option but it means drilling a hole in the engine mount support.
The 28 spline axles are OK if the arent re-splines but the disc brake ones break easyer the the drum break ones

It happens,the manuals seem to be hard on everything..
I just found a half stripped crown wheel and pinion and bent 31 spline billet axles in mine,and Ill need a new strange housing as well...

Not sure when it happened,
I will have to get an aftermarket strange housing and some 35 spline mark williams billet axles,the centre should be ok with the bits I have in it..

Hey GT 351, good luck at the strip...it's a lot of fun! With your 17" wheels and stiff low profile tyres you're going to easiy go up in smoke off the line if you even think about going hard with that much hp!! :

As soon as you spin, your 60's go up big time, so you're going to have to ease on the gas off the line and perhaps slip your clutch a tad without burning it. Just think "Granny".

I think an engine brace/chain is more important with slicks as they transfer all the twisting pressure back up the driveline towards the engine......your 17's will most likely spin and let the pressure off the line. It's still a good idea though, especially with a manual.

I'd prefer solid engine mounts myself (still have to get some), but in the mean time I fitted one of these from Competition Engineering.....called a Torque Rod. You can easily make them up with a few rod ends and steel rod + welder. Engine still moves around a bit, but perhaps I should tighten it more? Only used it a few times. Unclips in 10 secs for street use.

Pretty good : but also a thing to keep in check. If i continue racing i will run washes and spit pins on my throw rods.

Please keep us posted on how you go I dont want to be a smart *** but I think you will find your tyres will slow you down heaps. I reckon your 60s will be 2.1 or 2.2 slowing down what may be a low 12 car to a low 13 .If its got down low torque do a 3500rpm cluch ride let it bog down a bit and nail it, dont get to excited when you see that tree coming down or you will end up sitting there for longer than you want in a cloud of tyre smoke. good luck
