CANT HELP YOU OUT BUT I HAVE JUST CONSUMED A few glasses of red and am getting a headache , better have another glass, i say store it in your stomach.
but seriously i have a friend who stores it . he has it in a cool dark cellar under his house. the temp is pretty much constant room temp. |

If we're talking a large amount of years, you might want to look at a storage facility that only deals with storage of wine.

Constant temperature is the secret < 20°C preferably not too many extremes of humidity, dont for get to rotate the bottles to kee corks wetted. (I dont think this applies to casks : )

Have been collecting fine reds for some time with shairaz being the favoured drop, there are many good books available that will help out for a few bucks, but probably the specaily built wine fridges are the best option these days for keeping your top drop in order.
As for keeping it many years unless your buying say a grange or similar you will find that too many years and you have wasted your investment as they can and do go off. As mentioned rotation is good to to keep your corks in order and to help prevent ulage ( evaporation ) however this happens over time. depending on what your buying and how many will depend really on the best set up required. but there is one thing i have learnt about good red wine, and it's not the wine that counts it's the quality company you share it with that counts. If you read the books they suggest buying say a dozen for your collection at a time now this can be expensive as i have spent around 1K on 6 bottles, then each year try one then when they reach thier ultimate drinking level bring them to the front of your cellar for consumption. there is nothing worse than hanging onto a good red and letting it go off just because you want it to get older, there is a point where they turn to mud and stink like sh**. I am happy to PM you a list of recemded books if you like, and from my humble experiance there are a lot of medium priced wines say $50 - $100 that are very good and picking the right ones will appreciate over time, however in most cases the more that you spend the longer it will last. You can also spot bargains in out of the way places where the general Jo Blo does not understand or appreciate a good red as a bottle shop will buy a few examples in and they will sit in the back corner covered in dust ( these can be a good buy ) For example today in out of the way bottle shop 18 bottles of a 95 peter leahman shairaz was uncovered by my partner and at a price of $50 each they were a winner. LOL currently my wine collection has all but dried up ( busy dinking them but not replacing them, so i must sort that ) and before any gets the wrong end of the stick i love a good old fashioned beer as well. Black sambuca, keep it away from me. Cheers DOC |

Try to replicate a cellar. Lay the bottles to keep the cork wet, or the cork shrinks and ambient air will turn your vino to vinegar.
People say your wine should be allowed to breathe - I say the neck of the bottlle is too small, the top of the wine glass allows it to breathe much better and faster - (Call me **** elegant) |

Thanks for all your coments, probably the best way is to invest in a wine fridge luckily i'm in the whitegoods game but the brand we handle are Jenn-air (American) which dont make a wine fridge but the other brand Gaggenau ( Germany ) and the Rolls Royce of the whitegoods but at a cost of $40,000 and even though i could get 50% off,it's still a bit too high (bloody ridiculas for anyone to pay that price).
I know there are other cheaper brands out there and the one on Ebay looks ok. I'm trying to start a collection of Grange Hermitage,i bought a bottle of a 1971 vintage for $850 the other day ,so i will want to look after my investments. Cheers John

I recently got a 2000 Grange (the latest one) as a long term investment. Anyone else lucky enough to get their hands on one of these?
