Default Mechanic recomendation - Pt Cook(Melb) area

Put a new motor in my Mustang over the weekend (302) and it is runing awful. Looking for a competent mechanic in the local area to look at the timing (to make sure I put the dixzzy in correctly) and to tune the carby etc.

Any recomendations would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Andrew

Try L&J's just across the bridge in Laverton (just off the roundabout after you go over the westgate freeway). I've seen a few mustangs in there garage...

Ive put many windsors together over the years and sounds like the firing order is out. Take it to top dead centre on Number 1 piston(remove plug to do this ) and then follow the firing order as per manufacturers recommendations. Also check that the plug leads are in good condition as these can cause problems even if there not very old. Check point gap as well as if it to close can cause engine to run pretty bad. New condenser is always a good start. Good luck

Timing order is correct. Went back to my old dizzy and she now starts fine. It does need to have the timing and carb tunded and maybe the rockers adjusted also as it has that tappety/noisy lifter sound. It is a re-built motor so hopefully it is just tuning issues.

I need to get a timimg pointer though, as the new motor didnt have one with it, just a threaded hole for one.

Tribal, thanks for the recomendation, I will go an see them.
