Thats where, in your instance playing the 'I can buy a BA for that money' card is not a bad thing to bring to the table as part of the negotiating process. Puts that seed of doubt in a lot of peoples minds, especially if they also secretly believe that they might be asking a little too much for their car. That's why the boyfriend will be the one looking at and offering for the AU. I get too attached to the cars and will offer just about anything to get it!! He on the other hand can be quite objective and can keep the whole poker face thing going. Thanks for the advice, its all really appreciated.
