need some advice RE: transfer of vehicle.

Hey guys, thought i would see what some of you think i should do.
I bought my Brother a mazda 626 turbo about 6 months ago, since then, i gave him my AU to drive, so now the 626 is laying dorment.
I cancelled the insurance on it, and just payed for this years rego.
I need to get a car for my G/F as she had her car written off in an accident 6 months ago, and the insurance company has only now cleared her from the accident.
SO, i want to give her the 626 to have it under her name, and to insure it in her name.

I understand that to transfer a vehicle over to someone elses name it requires a RWC, but i really dont want to have to take it through one as there aint nothing wrong with it.

WHAT do i have to do to transfer it t her name without any dramas?

also, anyone want an '89 HOLDEN CAMIRA for parts? rear left side damage, "written off". inside in IMMAC

If there is nothing wrong with it, get a RWC.
Write a receipt for her.
Go to Vic Roads.

so no money has to exhange hands between her an I?
i just write a dummy receipt?
Who should i take it to to get the RW?
you seem to live "close" to me, know of any good places?

No money has to change hands between seller and buyer, but there's a transfer fee that has to be paid on the market value of the vehicle which is 4% of the value plus a small fixed fee I believe. You can put whatever you want on the form, but if it is too low, they may reject it and base it on market value using some reputable valuer.
For example, when I got my first car, the seller put $3800 on the form as a favour to me, although I paid $6400 for the car - an XE Falcon in 1994. If he put $500, Vicroads may have rejected that. You don't even need a receipt between the seller and buyer to transfer it, just the seller and buyer's signature and details on the transfer form.

You need a RWC to transfer registration. If you want to avoid all this, leave it in your name and get her to pay all the costs - rego, insurance etc and hand her any speeding fines that come to you.

OK you dont have to do any of that at all IF you live together ..

the law is that if you and your g/f live at the same address
then you can legally change a car ( 1 a year ) from spouse
to spouse for the sum of $25 and a stat deck that says the
car is yours and that you wish that your spouse to have it...

AND if BOTH of the cars rego are due in the same month
then you can Pay a 6 month rego ON 1 CAR ONLY..

IF you get a car from a family member ( willed to you from a death )
then you take that copy of the will to vic roads and a transfer fee
of $30 to put it into your name..

ALL THESE THINGS DO-NOT REQUIRE A R.W.C.

these are just some of the rules that have changed in the last 6mths
there are a heap more but this is all YOU need for your problem

ditto what he said spouses should be able to swap etc for a flat rate
happens here in qld with a stat dec etc

My Uncle wants to tranfer his car under my name. Does it require a RWC since we are family?

We recently transferred our family barge from my name to my wife's name, and didn't have to go through RWC etc. We were told though this is only applicable for spouses, but you should check with Vicroads just in case.

Only if the vehicle was willed from your partner/spouse. Any other relative you need a RWC.

Yes, you need a RWC for any family member other than spouse/partner proven by marriage certificate or stat dec.
