At the moment I'm using a large shifter, but it's not gripping right. What size ring spanner will fit the bolt.

Just tried taking the bolt off. The thing is stuck and doesn't want to budge. When i bought it for a service at Ultra Tune, they took it off and they have done something to it. They must have used loctite on it.
I did the stupid thing and didn't check if i could get it off before draining the old fluid out. Any suggestions on how to remove the bolt would be appreciated. |

A cold chisel or punch and a big hammer will move it if you are prepared to bugger the bolt. Measure the flats accross the head and go buy yourself a socket from Supercheap or similiar to suit your socket set shaft size

Can anyone tell me the size of the bolt so i can pick up the right socket tomorrow. It'll save me from getting a ruler out and climbing under.

Just changed mine and used 29mm socket on a 2ft breaker bar. My bolt was pretty stuck too.
btw mine's non-LSD Live axle diff, not sure if the LSD models will require a different socket size. |

Thanks for that AU Gold. Did you have to jack the back end up to get the breaker bar in properly? Did you use a single or double hex socket and was it on a 1/2" square drive? Did you have to give it a good push to move it? I've given it all I've got (a fair bit of force) and it hasn't budged a bit :
Don't know if you'd know, but about how much am I looking at for the bar and socket? Thanks again. |

Buy a decent 1/2" socket set and breaker bar. Might cost $200 but they are handy to have. With a 2ft breaker bar you won't need to hang of it

My AU is still on the SUV Suspension! so was a little easier to access.
Jacked the back up onto adjustable axle stands set at half height (enough to lie on my side with a bit to spare). Used a sidchrome 29mm socket approx $12 on 1/2" drive, already had the breaker bar - maybe somone on here can give a guide price for the bar When using the breaker, use one hand to steady the socket on the bolt, as a bit of oil and the wrong angle of the bar and it will slip off and probably hurt. Mine took a fair amount of force to move, probably because it had never been off before. |

Where did you buy the 29mm sidchrome bit from? I don't remember seeing them at supercheap or repco...

Was the socket single or double hex? I've been told double hex can strip the head of the bolt, when too much force is applied.
Thanks for all the input so far guys. |

Repco seems to have a decent range of tools these days, where are you?
