Just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction as to where i should start when it comes to giving my car more power. I have a standard 99 AU1 forte auto and i just want it to be a bit quicker and sound more powerful also. not looking for a street machine transformation.
Plus if you can give me approx prices of what it takes, much appreciated. As you can tell i am new here but so far have valued a lot of the information you guys post here. thanx. plus it's the second car i've owned but the first serious one. |

Are u up to doing the work yourself? as id say a reground performance cam from WADE Cams and a nice set of extractors would be a good cheap start if u installed them yourself
If u would like a drive in drive out upgrade, Apparently Jim Mock has some awesome packages www.jimmockmotorsport.com

First problem, i live in a country town of about 14k people in the north of WA. 16 hours from Perth. i'm willing to do the air intake stuff myself but anything else...leave tothe proffessionals. what do you think of extractors and a 2 1/2" exhaust? will it do much? Lukey of course.

It depends on how good you want your parts to be. Best extractor choice is either the JMM Race series (web link posted earlier) or the Pacemaker Comps (guys correct me if I'm wrong on this). All this stuff can be mail ordered either from the suppliers or you can grab stuff off ebay. From here on in, it depends on how much u wanna spend and whether or not ur insurance company likes any further mods.

The best thing you could do for an AU Forte auto would be fitting a good set of extractors and exhaust.
That will get you a handy extra 10rwkw for sure. I would recommend the Jim mock motorsport race series or pacemakers PH4480 comp series as the two best ones to choose. Keep your AU cat its fine don'y get conned into changing that. Supplied and Fitted say $1100 is fair. If you have a Sedan it has a 3.08 ratio diff which is way too high for good acceleration so changing it for a 3.45 ratio from an XR6 or even a 3.23 ratio from a wagon, ute etc would make a big difference in take off. Supplied S/H and Fitted say $900 is fair. If you can do the work yourself a nice cheap option would be a wade 1604 cam which will suit the auto and give good performance with the exhaust. Cost about $200. With a cam you could even consider going to a 3.73 diff as the engine will want to rev harder. |

Thanks for that jonbays, needed that info. My goal is 150rwkw N/A.
Yeah, basically, go for new exhaust, air intake and cam. You'll be sweet then.

new question, will not changing the diff after the exhaust and extractors f**k the original diff or will it just feel a bit weird?

Seen your car at Hallam dyno day and the front and drivers side looked as if it had a few body bangs as well in the past. Must be to much power ? buickman : |

With a trans at $450 and motors for $770 who cares?
let e'm blow every now and again. The taxi is still alive, its just a bit err ummm sick. I can still boost through the gears, just not the 1st to second change. Dont forget this is a tired car, and as a tired car has covered 1500klm's with 6psi and no cooler. It has also had three WOT dyno runs till it pinged like hail on a tin roof. Tommorrow I wil drive it about 200k's and I have no anxiety about doing that. They are a pretty good thing. |

hehe I just bought 2 AU engines for $600 with 3 month warranty... They just don't go 'bang' like the E'series i6's used to and as a result the wreckers up here are FULL of them.

OK, you did much better than me. Problem I have is that there is no warranty with a turbo! Can you discose the wrecker you used? or is it an insider deal for a high volume purchaser?

I have 3 regular wreckers in Brisbane I use, they match each other but I like to spread the work around to keep them all happy
That's the trade price minus GST so $330 ea for fresh abeit 2nd hand engines is a giveaway

OK I feel a bit better about $770. I am getting the engine from brisbane too, but its a private deal. Its meant to be a series three with 28k. But who really knows?????
