Default gthofan is off the road for 6 months

Hey guys, after a few problems with cops, my car will now be off the road for about 6 months, starting monday 5pm : :(

I will be doing a complete rebuild of the car, including, either au or v8 conversion, Full electric looms, thermo's, climate control heater box.

If i go v8, gt40 heads and new intake manifold, cam, msd ignition, will be on.

Au- will get full rebuild- pistons, cam, crank, etc...

more things are possible, but yet to think of them hahaa
A workshop build thread will be made soon enough

cheers
scott

Is that your car is off the road or you have a suspended licence?

So where you going to drive on the weekend, Sydney?

Well, at least you have put a positive spin on the situation Scott... Should the eastside mini meets become a "Go to Scottys place and work on his car with him" ?? :P

At least the EB wont blow so much smoke anymore!

Brad they'll most likely send out a notice in the mail telling Scott to get a noise test on his exhaust. I got one last year at Spring Nats, damn EPA.

What a shocker of a week you had, Scotty. At least you seem to be making the most of it, so when you get back behind the wheel, your car will be better than ever (hopefully with some decent wiring this time!). I can give you a hand as well with it. You've got my number so if you need help, then feel free to call.

(BTW, when you put your new engine in, don't try painting the rocker cover again :P )

how hard will it be to re-register your car after so many mods, especially the v8 conversion if you do it, wont you need an engineers certificate to get the car roadworthy?

thanks bradensebxr6,

sad news. but a good chance to get good things done. i take it you have other ways to get to work/school/uni/?
hope the conversion goes well for you (pics please) (go the au )

technically he needs engineers for any of the mods...however given its already a 4.0L he could get away with it. if you go the AU im sure a mechanic some place will sign it off saving you an engineers cert (or if u a mech with a ABNorCBN you could do it)

(info taken from EIN number form located on vic roads website)

im going to stick with a quiet exhaust i think. Hmm i remember a thread in the last few days talking about roadworthies and au motors. It needs to meet au emission laws, which would mean intake manifold also. not sure though.

The epa sent out a letter, saying i was spotted on mountain hwy with a loud exhaust.

And yep i have a ride to work everyday saves about $150 a week

So, what happens when this happens? Does the car spotted need to be tested for a fee? If the car passes is the fee refunded?

It seems like anyone could put anyone else into the epa just for the hassle. I'd expect them to check the car out themselves first before asking for it to be tested.

The licence suspension was unrelated to the loud exhaust. He just had a shocker of a week, first the EPA notice (just needs to put a quieter exhaust on and get it tested to clear it), then a canary (fix up a few issues and get it roadworthied), and then had his licence suspended (for other reasons, which Scott can say if he wants, but it's his choice as to how much detail he goes into)

i got done for speeding back in march, and vicroads say that was within my 12 month good behavior period :( any way, the epa test is about $40. And i think you need to pay regardless of the results from the test.

Here is a list of to-do's/adding to the car:
Replace horn with standard, replace drivers side headlight with good one, Fit globe covers, refit airbox, ef/el belt cover, ef/el thermostat housing, 4 new tires, ea f/ghia dash loom, ea f/ghia heaterbox, remove surface rust from subframe, remove xr6 badging from guards, add door locks, add door knobs, replace front seats with ea f/ghia, standard exhaust, extractors, fire extinguisher to boot, au engine/respray block, cam, thermo fans, new brake booster/ fluid reservoir, cut and bog rust spot in 'a' pillar, steering wheel- standard, respray rear boot lip spoiler, add electric antenna, diff cover gasket.
And possibly add cruise control.

Should keep me busy for a few hours

cheers
scott

very true bentles, also cashing in rego, and cancelling insurance. As i payed for rego on august 5th i will get about $440 back. And not having insurance for 6 months equals about $500

Im going to be forced to cancel my rego because vicroads can do it if i dont get those defected items checked off. So ill get in first and get some money back.

The plan will be to strip down to almost rolling chassis, and check pretty much all parts. And re-build adding all previously mentioned items

cheers
scott
